sonyman87
some of you are already aware of this but, as of Saturday July 16, 2005 my new best QT mile time is a 15.07 in moisture soaked 94* weather. The track was in what i considered ideal condition for a good run with my car asside from the climate. I reached this 15.07 second run on my 4th pass with lots of room for improvement but after every run after that was slower then anisopated not form the lack of power the motor was putting out but form the lack of performance from my transmission. The 1st-2nd shifts took entirely way to long. sometimes long enough for the motor to litterlaly bounce of the revlimiter a few times before 2nd gear. mind you i still got a 15.1 or 15.3 on the times it did do this. I am 100% posotive i can do a 14.x run with the motor but the transmission just wont let me. Logic points to let the car retire from the track but i wont giveup until i hit a 14. Here is where i need your advice/opinion what can i do to this 4t60e to get it to handle the HP im giving it and how can i make it shift better. i would consider a shiftkit but i dont want to overdo the shifts. and i just had a pan service last friday litteraly the day before the race. 88Regal Limited
better converter, trannyt cooler and a fluid change. And BTW, you are running better than aaron's old car....
Aaron
better converter, trannyt cooler and a fluid change. And BTW, you are running better than aaron's old car.... Except he isn't...
Crimson Fury Z
yeah, try a filter/fluid change and if it doesn't have one already, look into a tranny cooler.
sonyman87
i totaly forgot about a trany cooler. like i mentioned in the post i did a filter/fluid change the day before the meet. im not sure if i will do a tourque converter. i hear bad things about those on high milage transmissions. i alread broke 190,000 miles. as for Aaron.. nothing needs to be said. Im already running a full second faster in the 1/4 over stock. 3 years ago i was hitting 16.0-16.1 with a few dips into the 15s. now its 15.1-15.3 with trany issues with a few dips into the 15.0s
JoroCorona
Have the trans rebuilt using a full greenstuff rebuild kit. High performance bands and clutches. Have someone that knows the 4T60E port the valve body, and either increase of decrease the spring tension in the solenoids. Have a high volume pump put on it with a 2500-3000 rpm stall converter. Have twin (yes twin) tranny coolers installed with a higher diameter tubing. Try to get them in a high air flow area and ALWAYs make sure they are clean. Then at the track hold it in 2nd and let it run. You should be in the 14's in no time.
5speedz34
Yeah, your best bet is to get the tranny completely rebuilt for where you want it.
mfewtrail
What was your trap speed on the 15.07 run?
sonyman87
What was your trap speed on the 15.07 run? like 91.28 but my highest trap for the day was 91.77mph  gotta go look at the numbers. They are all crazy. my best 60foot and best trap speed have been on 15.3 or higher runs from miss shifting.

Im almost to the point of just scraping the project car and letting it sit. (did i just say that) ahh! cant do that. well. to be honest. i will probably just slap a cooler on and find a track befor october when it cools a little and try to get that 14 marker.. who knows may be in the 92mph range cosidering the weather i ran in last weekend. JoroCorona
At this point your just going to be putting a band aid on the problem. once the trans starts slipping its only gonna get worse at a faster rate. Put the body repairs on hold, you want it to be fast, not look it. And to hell with the AC! Your running a higher performance engine on a worn stock tranny thats already giving signs of failure. I'd fix it soon before it completely fails.
BIGBULS
I would also suggest 3.73 gears (a pair of 35 tooth sprokets in other words) as well. BUT. Then your speedometer is going to be off (due to incorrect VSS input), and unless Ben/Sappy can burn you a chip with new shift-tables you are going to have all kinds of issues (such as the car not shifting at ALL under WOT........due to not reaching the target speed for a WOT shift). Vegeta
Someone has their chip? Wow, I didn't think anyone would pay 300 for a chip with no proof or even a name behind it. I can change the shift points but my chips aren't available publicly till I get better results out of it.
