ns87
I'm not gonna lie. I know practically nothing about engines. Anywho, head gasket needs to be replaced. It only leaks oil out of the engine, not in coolant, or coolant into engine. Whenever I get this fixed, is it worth while to get the timing belt/chain replaced? Do they have a tendency to break on the 3.1MPFI?
Robby1870
Ive only heard of a few timing chains breaking, plus, you dont have to remove the timing cover to change a head gasket. Where is it leaking oil from? Just curious.
Supreme Cutlass
The timing chains are usually rock solid unless the engine has seen some abuse... like mine..
ns87
It leaks from where the top end of the engine meets the lower half or "bottom end". lol I know enough about engines to know that. Basically, its where the engine doesn't have a 60 degree bend anymore and its just flat again if you cut it in half.

DaveFromColorado
if you're talking about directly under the throtle body, it might be the oil pump drive o-ring. Also, I've seen oil leaking from under the lower intake manifold along the block, typically the head gaskets on these engines won't have an external oil leak. --Dave. ns87
Ok. Heres a picture. The black strip on the bottom is the long side of the power steering pump. I'm looking down past the cylinders toward the bottom of the engine. Now the other picture is on the other side, by the very wide accordian type hose that goes toward the air box. Thats why I thought it was the headgasket. Also a mechanic told me it was the headgasket, but I wouldnt take his word for it.
sonyman87
rofl. Your headgaskets are fine that ring in very exact center of that picture you posted is the Oilpump seal. The O-ring is nutorious for going out on it. on your car it wouldnt be very hard to fix this problem. and dont take it to a stealer ship. they will "RAPE" you of your money for this. if you are not comfortable doing this yourself visit a local repair shop and they should able to do this in a few hours tops. DaveFromColorado
I'd say that's the lower intake manifold gasket leaking - and maybe a SMALL bit from the o-ring (extremely small bit) and I'd recomend replacing that o-ring at the same time when you do the manifold gaskets. --Dave.
