nebojsa_o
Wasn't sure if I would put it in general or powertrain, so if it's in the wrong section, please move it. Well now I'm trying to figure out why this car has issues after highway driving. The first time I took it to a lake 30km away, and got there with no problems. Turned it off, and a few hours later I was going home, started it, and it worked fine, I got to the town 30km again, and had to slow down to 60km/h from 100+km/h. Then I got to Circle Drive where the limit is 80km/h, and drove home, about 3km at that 80km/h speed, the Check Engine light came on, but the car ran fine, and then I turned it off at home, about 45 minutes later or so, I turned it on, and the light was still on, and then it dissappeared. Drove it for 2 weeks with no problems. Then yesterday I traded my brother cars, because he was going to a lake 250km away. He got there with no problems, stayed there overnight, and came back 250km with no problem. He was driving through the town at a lower speed, and no problems. Came home turned the car off, and started unpacking. He stayed to unpack, and I drove his girlfriend home about 3 blocks away. Car started and got there with no problems, I was going 50km/h or less. Then I turned around, and went back home, and the last turn before my house in the crescent I was going 20-25km/h and the car stalled out on me, as I was turning left, and the Check Engine light came on. I stopped on the road, and put it in Park, and started it up, It turned on, but the RPMs were lower than usual, and Check Engine light was still on. I put it in R, and back it up into the driveway, and then put it in Park, and the RPMs start bouncing from 500-1300 RPMs, and it stalls on me again. I go in and get my brother, and ask him was everything alright on the trip, he says, yes, and we start the car again, and the Check Engine light goes off within the next 20-40 seconds. I didn't drive it yet since, but I turned it on again, and there is no light, it idles normally, doesn't wanna stall or anything. Everything seems to be alright, but I'm really confused now, because I don't know what does it, and is it a good idea for me to drive around now, or should I expect it to stall out on me again. I did some forum searching, and noticed that similar stuff happens with IAC issues, TCC, and TPS. Which one of those would be the most likely cause for the problem. I read that TCC is somewhere on the front of the tranny, but I don't know where the IAC, or TPS are. What is the most common of those 3 things, or anything else that would cause these issues. The car stalled in OD while I was driving, and in Park when I parked it, does that give anyone any clues?? Thanks in advance, any help is very appretiated. nebojsa_o
What kind of a vacuum leak are you talking about, and is it possible it would fix itself up after a while of being turned off??
1990lumina
Pullthe cotrouble codes off the ECM..that should help us diagnos (sp?) your problem!
THe_DeTAiL3R
My gf had similar problem (running like crap on the highway) with her Sunfire.. it was the TCC. It could be the IAC, as I had problems with that on my 88 GP 2.8. The IAC is located on/near the throttlebody. Take it out and clean it with some Throttlebody cleaner, it may be gunked up with carbon.
nebojsa_o
I would love to get the codes to make this easier, but I'm short kind of tight with money now. Jeff, do you know if any place in S'toon pulls the codes for free?? My dad had the same problem with his '88 cutlass ciera, and it was the TCC. So that's my best guess. Anyone know if I can buy a scanner for OBDII cars?? Maybe not now, but I think that might be a good thing to have, eh?
