ToroToro
Well, you can do a few things... Either hook up only the two low frequency wires, for bass only. Or hook only the two high freq. wires for treble only. Or, you can take the positive wires from the high and low freq wires, and connect them. Then connect both the negative wires together. Then plug in the combined negative and positive wires to the speaker. Not sure that will sound all that great though. Honestly, I'd just stick to the factory DVCs unless they are shot. Even then, I'd get the new ones from GM. I heard they are $70 bucks a piece though. With the aftermarket ones, most aren't really designed to crank bass out, because they assume you will be using a sub. You'd have to look at your new speakers specs to see if it'll be worth your time. JMO...
1990lumina
My 3 way Kenwoods produce very good bass, especially now that I have them amplified. My friend's Alpine's, produce almost no bass at all. As for the wiring, I dunno, sorry.
DiscoStudd
If it were my car, I'd run new speaker wire from the headunit to the rear speakers and forget about using the factory wiring...
Cam'ron
yeah but you would still be dealing with the high and low output from the head unit new wire wouldnt neseccarily solve the problem
DiscoStudd
Does the HU have separate high and low outputs, or does it have one set of outputs run through a crossover? I was assuming the latter...
Cam'ron
i couldnt speak for the older cars but my monte has a amp factory installed in the trunk and there is as many wires going in as coming out... it is a 6 speaker setup, never bothered tracing them yet however
ToroToro
They run through a crossover somewhere before the booster amp, I believe. Its strange though because they have it wired so the low outputs dont fade, but the highs do. :?:
hell_raiser
all wires front along with rear wires run to the stock amp, this is why there is no fade its gay, to say the least. I am ripping mine out now actually i used care in typing this!
