Supreme Cutlass
I need to get my car in the garage, but the leaking pressure check valve is keeping the car immobilized. If I put a shop rag over the valve, would it be safe to pull the car into the garage? or should I just leave my car out in this horrible weather more until I can fix the leak? Guest TurboSedan
just bleed off the pressure and replace the valve. you'll need a valve stem removal tool to R&R it but those are cheap. be careful not to overtighten it when you put the new one in. Supreme Cutlass
I can't find the damn valve anywhere around here for less than $
Guest TurboSedan
$40  how is that possible?
Supreme Cutlass
Ask GM...
Guest TurboSedan
there is no way those can be $40. you're just talking about replacing the schrader valve core right? like i said in the other thread you can buy those for about $1 at an auto parts store. Supreme Cutlass
Not just the core, the valve itself is $
Aaron
Why worry about it? It's just a fuel leak, nothing dangerous or anything... hahaha just kidding, mocking myself kinda...It will be safe to pull in the garage though, but for added security make sure the car is cold. Guest TurboSedan
Not just the core, the valve itself is $40 still not possible, as everything but the shrader valve core is part of the fuel rail. GM must have quoted you for an entire fuel rail. all you need is the core, unless where the core threads in is stripped out.
Supreme Cutlass
Uh, NO... another GM dealer said they could sell the rail for ~200. You can easily take the valve off of the rail... they wanted to charge me 40 for the itty black schrader valve itself... not the rail..... Guest TurboSedan
You can easily take the valve off of the rail... i just went out and looked at my Cutlass and you are right! the entire schrader valve is removeable  i apologize for assuming it was not; i must have been confusing it with the fuel rail in my GTS, which is integrated into the fuel rail itself. i still think your problem can be fixed by replacing the schrader valve core. can you tell if the fuel leak is coming from the core or where the entire valve is screwed into the fuel rail? $40 for an entire new shrader valve is ridiculous. if you really need a new one go to a junkyard. if you go to a junkyard that lets you pull your own parts you could just pocket it since it's so small.
