frusciante fan
something for $150 or less if possible? and excluding any exhaust work.
DaveFromColorado
Complete tune up first - good oil, filter, fuel filter, things like that - then go for a cheap warm-air-intake from a Civic (I think the civic's) modified to fit in your car using an actual K&N filter - cooler thermostat - A/C Delco RapidFire plugs - GOOD spark plug wires ... little things like that can squeez a few extra ponies outta the engine. --Dave. ragejg
A warm air intake from a Civic? w00t? Got any links? I've never heard of this mod... does this only work for L27's, or does this apply to 3.1 MPFI's as well?

The whole tuneup thing is ALWAYs a good idea. Get it running better= more power. As far as the warm-air-intake.. I believe it doesn't do any good. There's been debates on here many times about losing (valuable) torque, not gaining power. You will get a different sound from the "sucking" noise, but you will not notice any difference. I know, I've tried both at the track and stock box was better.
DaveFromColorado
Thank you C-Bad, I wasn't always sure 'bout the warm-air intake idea I thought the WAI from the Civic's had the matching pipe for the 3.1's but wasn't sure, I do know one of them works, but you have to cut it down a bit to make it fit properly. 19Cutlass94
if you sue the warm air intake, youll prolly loose a little low end torque, but never heard of useing one from a civic though, interesting....

1990lumina
I've always been told by people on here to just put a K&N filter in the factory airbox...I have yet to try putting on in, but I will soon because the air filter is dirty and I need a new one. I'll tell you if it helps at all on my old 3.
Cam'ron
k&n makes a difference for me after i finally got the damn thing in!

I'll tell you if it helps at all on my old 3.1 I got a used K&N, mind you I used the recharge kit and followed the directions exactly. I didn't notice any power difference. I do like the fact that I can clean it and it will last the life of my car. I suppose if I get my tranny fixed I can then take it to the track, buy a cheap paper filter and make a comparison.... frusciante fan is you want to do ANYTHING with your air filter, do a real cold air intake (CAI) or fenderwall intake (FWI). You want **COLD** air in the engine, not hot engine air! I read somewhere that for every 10*F of heat you lost 2% power (probably torque). sonyman87
besides exaust + good intake get UD pully and polymounts. <-- your best bets UD pully is 75-120bux polymoutns can be inserts look around for priceing could be 35-80bux
frusciante fan
what's a UD pulley and polymounts?
Robby1870
UD pulley --> Underdrive crank pulley. A smaller diameter and usually lighter crank pulley. Frees up a few hp at top end, usually Poly mounts --> Polyeurethane bushings used in the top engine mounts. Will not give any hp gains, but make the motor not move around as much....I think this is more of a maintence thing than anything. Some people say it makes the car feel better on a launch, since more of the power is transmitted to the wheels and not taken up by basically rotating the motor in the engine bay. 94cutlatized
sorry guys but i disagree about the short ram intake, i defenetely feels and runs stronger with it than the stock box, since more air is making its way into the chambers. Well at least on my car. 94 cutty 3100 sfi

JMo60
the stock air box is actually pretty decent, i run 16.10 without nitrous and i have a stock air box, with minor modifications. WAI is deffinately worse than a stock air box, CAI is better but in my opinion not worth the money for either. your stock box brings in cold air with actually little restriction. it is better to have less flow of cold air than lots of flow of hot air..... havikx
i know when i was runnin my euro 3.4..i just put a cone filter and it made a world of difference. it was more responsive. horses arents big numbers..but every little bit counts. theres not much other than what every1 has said already. intake, you got a few options. either way is good. WAI will help, FWI is a bit of a project cuz you gotta relocate your battery and build up a plexiglass housing, and CAI is the best but its a bitch to try and fabricate. i've only seen a few wbodys with them. underdrive pulley, poly dog bone. check. do a complete oil change and tranny fluid change. i went with royal purple products cuz i'm a horsepower tv type of guy. tune up, sparks, wires. check. CLEAN OUT YOUR TB! it works wonders. a can of spray is like 6$ at an auto parts store. you could always do the fan switch mod but i wouldnt recommend that unless your doing alot of racing cuz its annoying going back and forth to work and forgetting its on, jumping the batter, etc. pour in a drop temperature agent into your radiator. anything to drop it a few degrees is nice. *i believe i saw the same 10*f = 2%* once again..i used royal purple product called purple ice. says 30* cooler runnin temps. 60*v6 chip. thats always a good thing. this is merely speaking about my 3.4 your engine may run differently. 94cutlatized
I got an new oversized radiator for i believe a 4.6 or 4.something, dont remember :? , in my 3100, 100 degree weather here in deep south texas, with ac on, unless i drive my car for over 2 hours non stop, the needle will probably go halfway, other than that w/o a/c and at night, the car is always at 180 or less. Cooler is better, remember
dave31
The k&n filter-in the-box is good. I noticed it right after I put one in. It helps a little, not going to make a HUGE difference though. I did some exhaust work, a k&n air filter, and a lower thermostat and my motor runs WAY cooler than it used to.
