Prospeeder Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Theres actually quite a few strange differences THe Front and Back Seats are different, the 89 are smooth, while the 90 have ribs 1989 TGP http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/6/web/834000-834999/834464_11_full.jpg 1990 TGP http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Prospeeder/Turbo%20Grand%20Prix/100_0110.jpg The Switches for the lights and wipers are different 1989 TGP http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/6/web/834000-834999/834464_10_full.jpg 1990 TGP http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Prospeeder/Turbo%20Grand%20Prix/100_0097.jpg The 89 had a Gas door opener, while the 90 you had to manually go out and open it by hand The Radios were really different 1989 TGP http://fp.enter.net/~nicolette/images/turboGP/TGPgetrag2.jpg 1990 TGP http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/Prospeeder/P001597Small.jpg IF anyone has anything to add, please do, i find it so strange that they have these differences like this, did regular grand prixs with cloth or leather SE's have ribbed seats in 88-90? Quote
kuntzie Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 1989 had the premium sound button on the door to turn on/ off the door speakers 1990- as far as as know it wasnt available 88-89 were the smooth seats 90+ ribbed seats ofor all GPs Quote
kuntzie Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 oh and im pretty sure 1990 was the first year for the CD player option Quote
Prospeeder Posted July 14, 2005 Author Report Posted July 14, 2005 why the hell would u wanna turn off ur door speakers, thats so stupid, good thing they did get rid of that Quote
Rick5638 Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 The headlights/fog lights have the black trim all the way around on the 1989. Some 89s had factory glass headlights too, maybe the early 90 model did but later in production they went ot the plastic. The door speakers are like a mono/stereo switch on some head units. I'm sure its good for something, I just haven't figured it out yet. Rick Quote
kuntzie Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 pull thingy just like the hood ( its right next to it) Quote
5speedz34 Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 Really?! How difficult would this be to put onto a regular W? Quote
kuntzie Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 i dunno but i want it lol (youd have to find a 88-89 gp i believe and run the wire thing and a different fuel door ill look into it Quote

Rick5638 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Really, mine was built 04/89. Perfect glass headlights, but the car only has 34k miles too Quote
Prospeeder Posted July 15, 2005 Author Report Posted July 15, 2005 so after june of 1989 production i assume it was all plastic....interesting Quote
Rick5638 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 Does the 90 have a swithch to change the HUD from km to mph? I don't remember my 90 having that option but my 89 does. Quote
kuntzie Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 i wish.. or i hope... when its off and i turn it on it flashes 188 km mph .. its coufusing up here with the MPH, i like them better. but i dont know exactly 50 km is in mph( not that i ever go that slow lol) where was this switch you speak of anyways Quote
Prospeeder Posted July 15, 2005 Author Report Posted July 15, 2005 there isnt a switch, the 91-96 have them, but the 90 doesnt, whats up with that Quote
kuntzie Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 well the TGP was only available in the states Quote
GutlessSupreme Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 My '90 doesn't have the E/M button. On '89s it should be on the right side button pod next to the steering wheel, with the wiper controls. Quote
Rick5638 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 actually it's a Met/Eng switch just below the windshield wiper switch assymbly. How about a security lighting switch where the headlight swith assymbly is? The 89 has it too. Quote
kuntzie Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 yes the 1990s dont have security lighting Quote
Rick5638 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 wow there really are quite a few differences in the 2 years. Does the 90 have a turbo? The 89 does Quote
Rick5638 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 No, all kidding aside, I liked the 90 seats better. I think they wear better too. All that smooth leather surface on the 89 is prone to show its maturity no matter how well you take care of it. Quote
LukeZ34 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 But the Security lighting was available on the 90 STE's.. Isn't that strange? Quote
Robby1870 Posted July 15, 2005 Report Posted July 15, 2005 yeah, it sure was. I love the security lighting. And, I thought the STE was just supposed to be a 4 door TGP...odd. What DIC did different year TGP's have? Was the STE the only car to get the VFD? Quote
