f_399
where can i take the car to have the gaskets replaced? ie pepboys, midas????
Kalgorn
I would rather find a local shop you trust to do it. Midas will charge you out the ass... they're expensive for anything.
SigEpCutlass
i would definately take it to a GM affiliated place, like a dealership or specialist. I would not trust something that critical to a place like pepboys or midas...
Brian P
Pepboys is no longer allowed to do such a job. Something along the lines of anything more than 8+ labor hours they're doing away with.
Dannymik
I wouldn't let any of those place mentioned above touch my car...especially at the price they would be asking!
slick
Symptoms- little bit of a rougher idle, loss of coolant, like listed above. Most likely, at that many miles, there is a slight leak. Hell, probably all of our gaskets leak, it's to what extent is the case.
3pt1lumina
rough idle, loss of coolant, etc etc. Definitely dont go to the places mentioned above. Go to a mechanic that you trust in your area or if you are brave enough, do it yourself.

whitetrack
My gaskets are fine and I have 107K miles on my 1994 3.1 olds cutlas supreme. I was going to pull the intake so I could replace the o-ring since I have the oil leak in the oil pump seal location. Should I not pull the intake and try to replace the o-ring by taking off the throttle body instead? I don't want to introduce a leak that I don't have yet. Anybody else do the o-ring repair and how bad was it?
Goph
My 95 GP had just over 90k I think it was when It was sold and I never had the lower intake gasket leak. I did have the head gaskets blow and spun a bearing all before 80k. The head gasket went 3 weeks after I got the car too.

The TB is just connected to the side of the plenum. Maybe I'm wrong I dunno
Cueman
Has anyone done a generic write up on replacing the LIM gaskets? I have 138,XXX on mine and have noticed a leak is starting...would love to attempt to change them.

Engines reliable as hell. thats good to hear, i am almost at 150K what causes the failure? maintenance? pushing engine too hard? Oil?? on either end of both LIM gaskets there is a lot of pressure exerted on the plastic of the gasket. Over time the gasket will crack at these stress points causing a leak. No it does not happen to every single 60v6 pushrod however it is very common to happen. In 2002 GM released a revised gasket desgin with a beefier rubber seal and stainless steel tabs inserted where the stress points are to reinforce the gasket. Along with this they released a revised installation spec that requires the use of revised LIM bolts that have a powdertype threadlocker on them and require a different torque spec than before.
