alternator replacement (DOHC) HELP!!!

Yes, I'm looking at the write up, but I have a few questions. I can't for the life of me get the front subframe bolt loose, anybody else have this problem? (I think I'm gonna run to the store and get some pb blaster) second, what size is the rear subframe bolt? My sockets seem to get fewer every time I use them. Other than that, I think it's pretty straightforward, but I'm stuck until then.

Use a breaker bar, or a pipe over your socket wrench to help break it loose. And, the PB blaster will help. If you want me to, i can run outside real quick and tell you what size that is.

nope, the rear one on mine is definitely in the vicinity of around 17mm, but I dont have any more sockets bigger anymore (crappy tool box, and my dads tools are all at home). I guess ill run up to the store and grab a few and hope I get a right one

hmmm, possibly. or some nutjob used a different size at some point. My brother is bringing over a friends sockets and some pb blaster, so hopefully I can at least get this beast off tonight.

it was an 18mm. Now, if I could break the front bolt loose. I've been trying to get it for probably about two hours now

haha, if only it were that easy. I have a friend helping me too, and still no luck. I soaked it in pb and im letting it sit for a while. (i sprayed it before a bunch too, but that thing doesnt want to budge)

also, how do you get the tie rod end out? Does it slide up out of the holder?

[extreme frustration]screw this, I shoulda just paid to have someone do it[/extreme frustration]

That's exactly why I prefer to pull the front axle and approach it that way. Then no fucking with the subframe bolts.

kinda late for me to try that route now. I just need to break this one loose and everything else is cake, but I think I've had enough for one night. I just cant get the socket to stay on in there, and when I do, it wont move at all :-(

Thats just nuts your having that hard of a time. Know anyone with a set of air tools?

As for the tie rod, I undid the nut on the bottom of it, then hit the bolt that holds the tie rod in place up, and it popped it right up.

the only problem with the air tools is that the car is up on jack stands completely ready except for the stupid bolt. I'll see what I can do first thing in the morning, and it might end up a call in to work (both because I can't get there, and because if I can finally get this thing done a few hours at work missed beats spending $250 or so to have someone else do it) BAH! Oh well, I'll live. Anyone close enough to come over and help?

And still, after going through two impact sockets, I think im just starting to round the head of the bolt >-o I have no Idea what to do now. the car sits there on jackstands waiting for a new alternator that I cant get to. anyone have and advice at all???

put the bolt back in and pull the axle out and go that route. THe first time i did it it took me almost 9 hours and lots of swearing. Thats because the stupid tie rod end wouldn't come out to save my life. But the alxe popped out pretty easily and then it just takes a small set of hands, and if my hands could fit, yours can. good luck

Are you sure you are not tightening the bolt? I know I've made that dumb mistake a few times.

did you put that bolt back in and pull the axle? You would be done by now if you go that route. Later Jay

Hope it all works out
