Heza
so my car finally did something to make me work on her. anyway... ...i was driving today when all of a sudden all my coolant blew onto the ground leaving me parked on the side of the road. here's the deal, all the coolant came from the back of the engine (3.4 DOHC), no water in oil, no leaky lines up front, and no white smoke. could i be safe to assume that my heater core lines blew? mihela816
check em and see. might need to get underneath with a flashlight on the LQ1. They enter the firewall right in the middle of the car.
5speedz34
That or maybe the coolant drain plug blew out the block.
Justin
My first CS did that when my head gasket blew out, although I wasn't up to operating temp or even moving, I started it up and it let go. Hopefully it's something a bit cheaper to fix though.

Sounds like a heater core job. I had that happen on my 1988 Buick Skylark once. When it happened to me, most of the coolant ended up inside the car - puddled up on the driver's side underneath the pedals. Kevin
Heza
i doubt its head gasket. as i said, no white smoke when it was running at op temp and no water in oil. also, doubtful it is the heater core itself since there is absolutely no fluid in the interior. now im going out to check the drain plug and then pull my upper manifold off. thanks for inputs regardless! 5speedz34
The drain plug is between the knock sensor and the crank position sensor.
Dannymik
my heater core went in my Cutlass, but didn't leak into the interior of the car...although you could smell it when you turned the heater/defroster on.
Heza
well...i found out this morning that it was the small bit of house going from the metal pipe to the heater core inlet that blew open. so after dismantling the top half of my engine again and working on the damn GM hose clamp for another hour or so i finally got it off. ill get a pic up of it later on. speaking of blockages...i hope i dont have one in my heater core. ill be severely pissed. anyone know of a way to check heater core out? DaveFromColorado
flush it with water.. disconnect both heater hoses from the engine, and run a LOW pressure hose through it, and I mean LOW pressure, you don't want to cause damage to the thing... flushing it out this way should clean 'er right up, I do it every time I go through a heater-hose ... --Dave. DaveFromColorado
backflush first for a minute or two, then regular flush, it's just water off the hose, so it's nearly free anyhow. --Dave.

DaveFromColorado
Hey that's what we're here for! I still got a cool pic of your car somewhere on my computer from when we all met up at the MOA. --Dave.
Heza
oh yeah? wonder what pic it is. i ran water through the outlet on the heater core and it poured right out no problem. that gave me relief.
DaveFromColorado
well most of the pictures have your car in it, the ones I was thinking of were the one's parked next to topless's Cutty-Convertable. Good to hear the heater-core ran nice and clean! --Dave.
