Nick1234
So this has happened twice now. Im taking a u-turn at about 10-15 mph in an intersection and the transmission falls out of gear. you have to let the rpms drop and then it engages. It also happened one time when i stopped real quick, i went to hit the gas and it wasn't in gear and then all of the sudden grabbed. What could cause this. the tranny is still under warranty for a month. 73,000 miles on it.

GP1138
Yeah, that sounds like a 4T60 transmission to me. My old Grand Prix LE used to do that. Just to be safe, take it in and question it, but unfortunately, that sounds like normal behaviour to me. The fluid in the transmission moves when you make fast maneuvers like that, and takes a second to fall back into place, causing the tranny to slip. DaveFromColorado
well, it's not actually that it's slipping out of gear, it's more like you're low on fluid, or your filter/pickup screen thinggie is partly obstructed and on hard corners there's not enough fluid supply to all the transmission to stay properly pressurized to keep the clutch packs energized. it happens to our Achieva all the time (small leak on the side-cover) just keep it topped off and you should be okay. --Dave. almost forgot to add ... don't overfill it to "be on the safe side" as overfilling will cause the trans fluid to foam up and create even more problems. Dannymik
I had my tranny slip out of gear like that at a sudden stop...same shit happened, I hit the gas right away and it just reved for a sec and then it slammed into gear. I was worried so I checked the fluid level and it was low....added some and it never happened again. This happened in the Cutty which has the 4t60e(had 82-83K on it).
