So I found out what my power steering leak was from. my rack and pinion has a big leak. so in other words, I need a new rack and pinion, which to buy from them is almost 400$ on top of that is tie rod ends, an alignment, and labor, making it cost (to have them do everything) 850$ Can any body suggest something to get this done? or where else i might be able to get some parts cheaper or something? it's not really something I can do with the time I have, but if i could buy all the parts myself somewhere and have someone do it or whatever...

gosh this sucks

I'd shop around for different prices...

My rack and pinion steering was replaced right before my grandma gave me the car and she paid $550(cdn)+tax for the parts and labor.

My dad replaced the steering rack and pinion on his Taurus last year, but didn't do any of the other suspension components and it costed him around $400 Cdn

Well, I'm looking at replacing my rack and pinion also, and around here it's like about $150+ core charge for the rack which comes with inner tie rod ends, and the outers which I did already are like I wanna say $20 a piece.

But you're also getting a alignment done, believe me a rack and pinion is a big job.

haha, and then the second opinion (which is right because the guy showed me) says that its just the pressure line, which I kinda thought it was

stupid "mechanics"

So its just the pressure line leaking??

If so that's better news then having to replace the whole rack

yeah, the pressure line decided to pop off. He handed me the flashlight and had me see how it was squirting out when you turned the wheel.

the EXACT same thing happened to me. I was turning the wheel and dad CLAIMED it to be the dump, so i said OK and replaced it. Kept leaking, so i had HIM turn it and i saw it squirting out as well!

Pressure line is a common problem on the 3.4 cars. I had to replace the one on my convertible a couple years ago.

glad to hear that problem is a little cheaper to fix then the entire rack would have been

yep. all fixed and I'm happy. I just wish I woulda had the time and equippment to do it myself. but all in all its fixed and im set now for a while, I'll just have to hold off on buying some of the other toys I wanted for a few weeks
