My brake lights are staying on ... what gives?

I can't figure out why my brake lights are staying on. Right now I am digging through a manual to figure it out. Also ... today has to go on record as the hottest day of the year. It's like 35*C and the humidity puts it in low 40's.

Thats like 110*F I think. I wonder if this has anything to do with it.

Just looked it up and it seems to be just that.

Only problem is, there are 2 setups and one is for 88-92 and 95+.

I'm gonna guess my 93' applies to the 88-92'.

oh gawd it's so hawt!

Try pushing it back in all the way before you replace it altogether. The brake light switch on my Regal was acting up like that last summer, and all I did was push it back down towards the brake pedal arm and never had the problem happen again...

Well where do I start.

I called around and finally found a replacement switch.... so they say.

I drive out to the place that SAYS they have one.

On the way I hit a small bump and lose one of my mufflers which damaged my rear bumper.

I take a bunch of off-ramps and circle back around to get it only to find the thing is trashed.

After cursing and swearing I get back in and continue on. I finally arrive at the Canadian Tire that CLAIMS they have the right part. I look at it and they tell me the part is $30 which is $20 more than the other Canadian Tire places I called (Canadian Tire because it's the only parts place open on Saturday after 1pm). It turns out the part numbers are not matching up and go figure... the 88-92 one I have in my hand is listed for my 93'. The 95+ one is also listed and cheaper.

I go to yet another store and pick up the 95+ switch.

I drive home and by now the sun has gone down. Guess what? My brake lights work fine and I didnt do SHIT to them.

So all that driving around and damage to my car ... was for f*cking nothing. :bash: :bawl:

I don't know how it would've corrected itself suddenly, but if it happens again, pull the brake pedal up a little with your foot and see if they do go off.. if they do, then the brake pedal switch just needs to be readjusted. You might spend hours on it thinking you're not doing it right, even though the actual proceedure is very easy.

I'd agree with everyone, it's certinally the switch, I'd try adjusting it before replacing it (sometimes that's all it needs)

Oh, and BTW, 35 degrees Celsius is only about 95 degrees Fahrenheit
