5speedz34 Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 Well, I've had Aarons car down at low sea level (600 ft) for over a month now, and the fucker still needs to be tuned. It's really running rich. I want to know how bad is it for the car. I talked to a few people and they said the longer it is the more it is bad for it, and believe me I'm trying to get money to get it tuned. Someone told me it can destroy the rings is this true? Will I notice bad effects?, A few days ago it was cold and I started it and some smoke came out the back at startup but nothing out of the ordinary. Quote
Regal_GS_1989 Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 It will foul up the plugs and the O2 sensor quicker. It will also shorten the life of the cat, if it has one, and turn your exaust tips black, thats about it. Quote
Aaron Posted June 24, 2005 Report Posted June 24, 2005 It does have a cat, a fucking expensive one too! The plugs/O2 sensor need to be changed during tuning anyways. Tony, change the plugs the day you get to Ben's place, not any earlier if possible. I have RapidFire 8s in it right now, I've always been happy with em. To change the rear plugs, have fun...lol Remove the 3, yes 3, there are 3, 2 in front, 1 in back, 3 total, that is 3 vacuum lines from the MAP sensor. Then remove the throttle cables, via the plastic tab on the black metal piece. It is the stock tab, and easy to take off. Remove the IAC and TPS wiring, along with the breather line on the top of the throttle body. Then take off the cold air intake, then remove the 7 bolts holding the UIM down. The entire UIM/throttle body will now lift right up and out of the car. You also have to remove the STB, and look out for the PCV line, it is kinda a pain to get off as it is below the intake tube. Oh yah, don't forget about the brake booster line as well. I think its pretty easy, and takes like 5min! As always, if you need any help, call me! I looked around, and couldn't find those gaskets. I'll look again, but I really think you took em with you. Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 29, 2005 Author Report Posted June 29, 2005 Well, Aaron Ben said I don't need to worry about getting new gaskets and we gotta pull the cam carrier ne ways to do the timing so I guess we'll do the plugs then! Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Someone told me it can destroy the rings is this true? yes, that is true. running extremely rich can cause the oil on the cylinder walls to become diluted with gas, which acts like a solvent. that can definately hurt your rings and cylinder walls. i have the same problem with my GTS. on the dyno it was off the scale rich; i can't even see the A/F line on the WBO2 section of the graph. i'm surprised it made the power it did considering. 5speedz34 Posted June 29, 2005 Author Report Posted June 29, 2005 Hmm, well my car is getting tuned this weekend. Do you think something bad could've happened. My oil smells like gas a little bit. The car has been like this for about a month. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 depends i guess. nothing bad has happened to mine and i still drive it. i really don't know if it's just too rich at WOT or all over the place. Quote
GP1138 Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 Get a lighter, and take the dipstick and run the lit lighter up and down. If your dipstick lights on fire, there's definitely gas in the oil. Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 29, 2005 Author Report Posted June 29, 2005 If my windows are down I can smell it pretty bad and when the AC is on. IDK- It's bad but not terrible I guess. I just need to get this thing tuned and I'll be alot happier. Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 hmmm....i've never smelled gas fumes when driving the car or gas in the oil. good luck with the tuning! Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 29, 2005 Author Report Posted June 29, 2005 And if the motor goes first I'll see oil out the exhaust plus the motor is warrantied till October of '06! Quote
Aaron Posted June 29, 2005 Report Posted June 29, 2005 It isn't bad enough to cause that kind of damage. You have to run EXTREMELY rich in order to do that. If its running that bad, put a stock chip back in it, that will pull a lot of the fuel its getting. I wouldn't be worried about it, it isn't tht bad, but it does need tuning, but just for max power and good driveability. Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 Well, I just back from Midas they relocated my 02 sensor for $40. It seems like it's not running as rich, and so far no SES light! Quote
Aaron Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 Wow $40 isn't too bad I guess. Did they just put a plug in the old outlet? Also, are you using a heated O2 sensor now? Quote
GP1138 Posted June 30, 2005 Report Posted June 30, 2005 how much did you pay for this car? Too much. Upwards of $4k if I remember right... Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 30, 2005 Author Report Posted June 30, 2005 Wow $40 isn't too bad I guess. Did they just put a plug in the old outlet? Also, are you using a heated O2 sensor now? Yeah, they just plugged it. I don't have the heated one on yet I just had them extend the wire a little bit. On the down side my fucking oil cooler is leaking again, but I got cruise to work! Quote
Aaron Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 Wow $40 isn't too bad I guess. Did they just put a plug in the old outlet? Also, are you using a heated O2 sensor now? Yeah, they just plugged it. I don't have the heated one on yet I just had them extend the wire a little bit. On the down side my fucking oil cooler is leaking again, but I got cruise to work! Plugging it is fine, it'll work. Just moving it won't do jack shit, it is still running the same. The exhaust isn't getting a reading either way. When it does get a reading, it'll be slightly more accurate though. In the long run, that is a better place for it. I don't know how you guys think what he paid was way too much, but that debate isn't important. Quote
GP1138 Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 I don't know how you guys think what he paid was way too much, but that debate isn't important. Obviously you'd say that, but you're not very objective about it. Quote
z34_nut Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 well I guess its all right that Aaron is paying for these constant repairs. wait, he's not? n/m on topic how-ever Running rich for a short amount of time isn't terrible. It should be fine once you get it tuned this weeked. Its about time Quote
Guest TurboSedan Posted July 1, 2005 Report Posted July 1, 2005 I don't know how you guys think what he paid was way too much, but that debate isn't important. agreed. c'mon guys i'm sure Tony doesn't want to hear about this shit anymore. he's asking a question about running rich so let's keep it on topic. Quote
5speedz34 Posted July 1, 2005 Author Report Posted July 1, 2005 Yeah, I'm seriously tired of all this shit about wether Aaron should pay for this...what I paid for etc.... I've moved on so has Aaron. Anyways, looks like Me and Ben had some conflicts, and next week is the W-body meet. Goddamnit won't be for another 2 weeks. Quote
