My cutlass has been acting weird lately and I finally remembered to post about it. It has a 3.1 V6 and when i take it on a long trip where the engine actually gets pretty warm and then I shut it off to go into the store or something, the car won't start when I come back out. Once I let it sit there and cool down, it'll start up and run just fine. It worked beautifully all winter cuz it never got too hot, but now that it's warmer, it's been doing it. Any idea on what's going wrong?

the cylinoid on the starter is getting hot and not operating correctly my 83 suburban had that same problem. my guess is the cylinoid

Well, wait... it'll turn over, it just won't stay running. So, would it still be the starter solenoid?

my truck turned over too but i have no clue what is wrong if it doesn't stay running when its started after a long drive.

the other thing you could do is pull out the under hood liner since it traps a lot of heat

The hood liner is there to protect the paint from discoloration from excessive heat being transfered from the motor to the hood/paint...

Could it be coils or something like that???

just a warning about the hood liner deallie lol

I had that problem on my SHO, it was the CPS (crankshaft positioning sensor).....it was a common problem with the SHOs but I don't even know if the part exists on these cars

yup, the CPS is on the backside of the engine block below the rear exhaust manifold on the 3.1 MPFI engine.
