J
It looks like i'm gonna doa 5 speed swap as well and the turbo after seeing Davis's car, it's just sooo sexy and i bet a load of fun to drive. What i need to know is can i get a 282 from a older cavi? What did they come in? I am going to that junkyard again this weekend and think i'll pick one up if i can find it. Thanks Guys Jay
GnatGoSplat
I've heard from others you only want one from a W-body, because the intermediate shaft and halfshafts or something like that are W-body specific. So even if you got a tranny from another car, you'd still have to hunt up a W-body to get the other parts anyway.
jeremy
Like Shawn said, finding a w-body one would be the easiest thing to do.
RainDownMyBlues
Use a 2000+ getrag 5 speed tranny out of the 2200 Cavy, NOT the 2.4 or the ecotecs. You'll have to get a flywheel machined down a tad bit, no problem. The actuall transmission bolts right up to the engine fine. But I do NOT know about it bolting to your axles and that. Calvin
Don't use the Cavalier trans with the 2200! It is not a HM282! I don't see the point in avoiding the old V6 Z24 transmission, they have a taller gearset in them, that I wouldn't mind having in mine. I don't think the Fiero models and Cavalier models are particularly weaker than the W body models. Kurt
digitaloutsider
The only problem with them is how much more difficult it makes the installation. Getting a W-body 282 ensures you have all the correct parts, and there's no dicking around trying to get shit to work.
slick
That, and the tranny mounts are different on non w-body vehicles.
5speedz34
You can always swap gear clusters out.
