Cam'ron
Ok this is a completely retarded damn question... but is there a trick to getting the airbox open on the 3.4SFI in my 2003 monte??? Really bugging me i follow the instructions in the kit from k/n and that damn box will not open up far enough to get the filter in or out... Am i going to have to undo the throttle body or something to do this?
Prospeeder
theres 3 little annoying clippy things, after u open it, lift towards u (drivers side) and it should pop out of them, then u can get to the air filter, my mom has a 3400 Grand am. xN8x
are K&N's car air filters good? I got one in my Honda 300EX ATV and it helps a lot, but that's a cone filter. Do their drop-ins provide any noticeable increases?
1990lumina
Apprently in my friend's 96 2.2 I4 cavy it does lol....but then again he's not the type of person to admit he got ripped off either lol.... He says it pulls a little better in the higher rpm, and in 4th gear when doing 90mph+ lol
xN8x
Oh, they must be good then, because I know those 2.2 I4's are such high performance engines. To provide more power to them is nuts, how does he keep his tires from spinning with that new filter and all that new power??????? *end sarcasm* Maybe if I ever have extra cash laying around I'll take a gamble and put one in. Till then, my fram high mileage filter will do just fine.
1990lumina
Now just wait for anyone to tell oyu ur Fram air filter sucks lol lol, after the new clutch in his car it can chirp into second  lol.
xN8x
My friend's z24 actually has some balls. I was surprised. My friend Jake has the 2.2 I4 and my friend CB has a 2.4 DOHC. I drove both and they're both manual. There's a big diference. The 2.4 can easily bark em into 2nd and the 2.2 takes some real hamering to get it done. the 2.4 can keep a burn out from 1 - 3 while the 2.2 sort loses it in the shift from 1 -2. That could be motor or tires though. The 2.4's tires are practically bald while the 2.2's are pretty new. <-wow, what a worthless post, I just compared two crapaliers on a w-body site, sorry to swerve off topic. Euro
yeah getting the air filter box open on our 03 Venture was a bitch and a half!! We figured it out like what Prospeeder said above. Fram sucks, if you're gonna go replacement filters and such, go GM ACDelco!!!

Brian P
dammit... maybe this wasnt a retarded question... me going frikkin nutz trying to get this thing open :guns: ---> airbox don't listen to what you were told above, the w-body box is different than the N-body box. I found it easiest to replace that filter by unscrewing the air tube clamp at the throttle body, disconnect the 2 wire plugs (one on the MAF, one on the air intake temp sensor) pull off the breather tube, then pull the air tube back off the throttle body and lift UP. Then undo the 2 little clips on top of the box, and push the airbox lid (with attached tube/MAF) forward and lift up and out. There's 2 tabs on the bottom of the "lid" that hook in place. Install is reverse of removal, just be sure those bottom tabs go into place and you HOOK THE WIRES UP before you start the engine. The other option is instead of unscrewing the tube clamp on the throttle body, just unscrew the clamp at the MAF sensor where it connects to the box, however if you don't have a good sense on how it goes back on, the MAF to box-coupling won't stay in place.
