i was bored the other night so i decided to pull the LG5 shortblock out of the corner of the garage and pull the melted piston out (piston #5). this engine came from a TSTE in the local salvage yard. i bought the complete engine (sans turbo) for $350 not knowing it was blown :( , that is why i turbocharged my LH0 instead. i had no idea it was this bad, and unfortunately i don't think there is any way i could get away with honing the block. pretty sure it will need a .020 overbore.

that lighter gray stuff near the piston pin on the connecting rod is molten aluminum that dripped down after melting off the piston

also, i thought it was interesting that 'MAHLE' was actually cast into the underside of the piston.

the other pistons look perfectly fine, as does the rest of the engine lol. hell, even the heads looked great, which i'm using right now on the turbo LH0.
