Calvin Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 I got the new GP 2.8peed from ebay back from Pennsylvania, after a long, slow drive. The car has a heavy miss but will still drive. Figuring that it just needed a coil pack or something, I decided I would do a little bit of lazy-man's diagnostic work and hook up my timing light and check to see if there weren't a pair of cylinders not firing. Well, I hooked up the light and it flashes regularly on 5(!) of the six cylinders. Is it possible that the coil has just shorted somewhere internally, and that the spark for that side really ends up going back down the coil tower and to somewhere in the coil or the coil bolts or something? Ever heard of anything like this?\ Thanks Kurt Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 my old 3.4 only had 5 cylinders running. Quote
R Dubya Posted June 22, 2005 Report Posted June 22, 2005 try putting that plug wire on a different coil to see if it fires that plug. good to check the small things before getting in too deep. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted June 23, 2005 Report Posted June 23, 2005 It could just be the plugs, my dads car had a couple cylinders out and I got new plugs for it, fixed it. Id say just look at the plugs, see if there burning or not Quote
5speedz34 Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 You can time our cars with a timing light? Quote
dbtk2 Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 You can time our cars with a timing light? No, but you can hook up a timing light to the plug wires to see if its firing or not. Shawn Quote
dsgrntld187 Posted June 25, 2005 Report Posted June 25, 2005 Probably just plugs and wires, thats what mine was when mine had a miss way back when. Quote
Calvin Posted June 29, 2005 Author Report Posted June 29, 2005 Well, I just stuck a coil pack on it last week and now it runs great. Check engine light comes on, bad TPS code, ugh. I guess that explains the hesitation down low under light acceleration (It can't evidently see that I am opening the throttle slightly) Thanks Guys! Kurt Quote
