just saw something about them and i'm curious. could i have the low-down?

that would be a WAI. warm air intake. Unless you go down into the fender, it isn't going to do much except make the car sound better.

Depends where you buy it (ebay sells em cheap, but certain ones don't fit properly) and I'd say it is a simple install.

Do a search, I know you've probably seen it before, but this has been posted quite a few times...

Apparently, if you don't do the really cold air intake down the fender then you migh as well just put in a K&N in the factory air box....the cone will just make it sound better, and might actually hurt your low end torque

It supposedly allows better air flow and "increased horse power." Sounds cool too.

Looks like this (sorry whoever's sig I took) :

You can also get an aluminum or pvc pipe to replace your stock black air hose.

Don't just plop one inside your engine bay, cause it will suck in hot engine air. The 3800 is a LOW-END-TORQUE engine, so the couple HP you might get at high end will not benefit the torque you lose from the low end. I read somewhere that for every 10* increase intake temperature you lose 2% engine power.

If you want to get some pipe and run a cone below the exhaust manifolds (sucks in cold air from under the car) or route it into the fender that's the best way to go.

the cone filter would accually come off of the throttle body. if you bought a cheap one off ebay. If you simply bought the cone filter, but kept the stock air inlet, it would be indeed a WAI (warm air intake)
