postalpsycho
Okay, this is somewhat related to my previous thread. Today I finally got an SES light on my drive home from work. It flashed a 14, which I realize is a high engine coolant temperature code. However, I didn't get the temp light coming on. And I still have no heat even with it turned up all the way, and it worked just fine at the start of this week (Sunday). The car doesn't want to stay alive at idle anymore either, or slowing down or coasting, or pretty much any other throttle speed than full open. Did my engine just go to hell in a handbasket? Dan94Z34
Pull the dipstick. If the oil looks like a milkshake, then u have head gasket problems. Your thermostat could be stuck open causing no heat, or the heater core could be bad. Your car may not be over heating, if the colant temp sender for the computer goes bad, it may send a signal to a computer telling it the car is overheating, when actaully its not. postalpsycho
Just checked the dipstick again, oil is right in the middle of the hatched zone, and looks like it's been in there for a little over 3000 miles, but no milkshake. And the thermostat is only about two weeks old. I have noticed since i've had no heat that both fans are running, when before I only ever saw the 220* fan work. White93z34
for what its worth, i've seen my fair share of brand new thermostats be duds.

JoroCorona
Have you checked your water pump? No flow = no heat and engine overheating.
Regal_GS_1989
did you bleed the system properly after replacing the t-stat??
postalpsycho
I'm guessing it's the water pump here. As far as i'm aware, if the upper radiator hose is hotter than hell, and i'm getting the code 14 with the SES and today I hadn't even driven 5 miles on a cool engine before the temp light came on...and the lower radiator hose isn't even warm. Water pump, methinks... P.S.: just pulled the ole water pump...what signs would tell me if it was bad or not? It still spins, the blades look just fine compared with the new one, the only thing is that everything is just slightly rusty.
