A/C vacuuming

I replaced an evaporator on my GP and I want to refill it with freon but have to get the entire system vacuumed. It has been converted to R134. Anyone know how I would go about doing this?

Buy a vacuum pump (JC Whitney sells them) or take it to a shop to get it evacuated. I'd go with option #2 because those vac pumps that JC Shitney sells (last I checked) cost over 2 bills...

If you have a AutoZone in your town, go rent one. Thats what I did... it cost $200 for a deposit but you get that back after you return the pump. My A/C is super cool now. I also change the GM white orfice tube to Ford blue orfice tube to make the compressor pull more vaccum at low rpm.

It's cool that your autozone rented them. I had to borrow one off from one of my neighbors.

Hey Whiskey River... Thanks again for the info on how to convert to R-134a and the Ford orifice tube. Now when the family ride in my car they complain that their too cold.

I got a pump from a friend today. Will have to see how to hook it up to the fitting now. I wonder if a fitting from the refill kit will work. Hopefully it is not only 1 way.

As far as I'm concerned, that's a good problem to have. :-)
