richiewwhite
Hey guys a while back when I was complaining about my car running like crap. 1990 TGP before making it run better/ O2 helped/ I was checking for spark on the coil packs. I replaced all the coil packs. I used a timing gun just to see if the wires were sparking. ALL were good except for the second one on the # two coilpack. It would spark once ever few seconds. not constantly like the others. I figured it had somthing to do with this cars emissions deal. Sparking on exhaust stroke and compression. I dont know why there wouldnt be spark though. I took my ICM to autozone and have it tested. It failed the first time. I bought a new one and then put it in. The same problem was happening. Irratic/No spark on #2 of the second coil pack. (from left to right) I put my old ICM back it and continued replacing parts(O2) until the gas mileage problem was fixed. It still doesnt have spark coming off that tower. Sometimes I noticed the car has alot more balls down low then it normally does. Im begining to believe my car is running on five cylinders. I dont have any spare computers or anything to try and swap and see what happens. I was just wondering If anyone ever had or heard of this problem with the no/irratic spark coming from a single tower. thanks in advance
Canada
Swap coil packs around to see if it moves with the coil or not. Inspect for a burnt or corroded connection at the coil packs and ICM. Do any of the towers have a burnt post? Test for spark using one of those spark testers from part stores....the slip into the end of the boot and you simple ground it and look for spark. The gap is huge to help simulate compression. If you don't have spark on one cylinder, then yes, you would be running on five cylinders....causing a poor fuel economy situation.
