oldman
I'm an old V8 guy who has put V8s in just about everything but it just does'nt sound worth the trouble swapping one into my 94 Lumina so can anyone tell me of any hop-ups for the 3.1?I know its no V8 but this thing is a real slug.It runs great but once you hit second gear it's like you put the brakes on instead of hitting the gas.I have already changed the intake, put in bosch platium 4 plugs but not a lot of change.Any help would be great. sl3196
Well for one remove those crappy plugs and get some AC Delco's. I would look into getting a TGP turbo set-up. Might be hard to come by but I'd bet someone could find ya one. Edit: Is a 94 3.1 or 3100?

TGPilot
TURBO IT! but then again if you go that route it would just be easier to find an LG5 and drop it in...and again if you did that you would need a 4T60 tranny from a TGP/TSTE or do a 5-speed swap. Then with a 5-speed swap you will need a donor car and someone to make a chip for you so it will run worth a darn. Awwww forget it...just drive the Lumina off a cliff...collect the insurance and buy a nice TGP or TSTE! 8) 8)
oldman
Would love to run ac delcos if I could get the horsepower that I get from the bosch plugs.I even run bosch in my big block nova with a noticable differance in power.
digitaloutsider
You're LOSING horsepower with those Bosch pieces of shit. Either way, you shouldn't be expecting performance out of plugs.. they're a maitenance item. If you want good plugs, get AC Delco RapidFires. Guest TurboSedan
the waste spark ignition these cars have tend to eat up platinum plugs.
GP1138
the waste spark ignition these cars have tend to eat up platinum plugs. It's because every other plug has reverse polarity spark, which wears the platinum faster.
mfewtrail
Search the forum for posts on "top end"(heads/intake manifolds) swaps. They will yield a decent increase, but still won't make it no hot rod by any means. The 60degreeV6.com site has a ton of information on various modifications specifically for the 3.1 and other 60* motors(browse the forum there if you get a chance, supercharging/turbocharging has been discussed there quite a bit). Canada
Fir simple bolt-ons... -You said you have an intake...thats a good tart. -Underdrive Pulley....Fast Forward Performance (http://www.fastfwdperformance.commakes one, its well worth it. -Chip....a guy by the name of Ben on this forum does his own programming......its been proven to make 5 whp. That pretty much covers the good and cheap items. -Exhuast.....2.25" or 2.5" mandrel bent pipe with a high flow cat and straight through muffler. -Headers......no one makes them, the stock exhaust manifolds suck. I work at a GM dealership and have seen TONS of problems with Bosch plugs....espessically the +4s. Why do you need 4 points? There is only one spark.
