kadeas
I took off the 2 top dog bone, torque strut mounts, and I can move my engine all over the place. I don't mean a little, I mean all over, in any direction! Is this normal??? I know you remove them to tilt the motor forward, but it feels like I could pull it right out. Do I need new motor mounts?? If so, are they a biotch to change? Thanks
Guest TurboSedan
sounds like the lower motor mount is probably toast! is the lower motor mount leaking any fluid? does the engine actually move side to side?
kadeas
Yes, I can move the motor from side to side, I can even move it around in a big circle. Not sure if it's leaking any fluid, the bottom one has fluid in it? Would it being bad cause a lack of power? That's probably a dumb question. If I take a sharp corner at a good speed it feels like the transmition kicks out of gear for a second. Would that be from a mount? Are they hard to change? Very expencive? Thanks for your help! jdcutty
The lower mounts run about 50 bucks at autozone and are a real PITA. Does the tranny slip when you turn both directions, or just one? The tranny slipping could be an axle seal leak. I had one and it would slip if I turned left, but not right.
kadeas
I know it slips turning left, not sure about right. How do I fix an axle seal leak? Can the lower motor mounts be changed by the average back yard mechanic, or is there special tools involved? What are some symptoms of a bad mount? patgizz
fill the tranny a pint above what it says, that will take care of the slipping around turns.
kadeas
I checked trans. fluid, it was a bit low. I'll get some and see what it does then. BTW-what is the correct method for checking trans. fluid level? Engine running, in park, trans. warm, vehicle level, sound about right? I was told to take the highest reading on the dip stick, even if the fluid is just coats the edge of the stick, is that correct?
