CutlassSL91
What you you recommend for a forced induction system. What's easier to install? I don't care about turbo lag or TOO much power. Just want to get the 3.1 up to about 190-200 HP. Any ideas are appreciated. I don't really want to spend much.
Guest TurboSedan
for a 3.1 i would start by bolting on TGP parts. that should definately get you up to ~200whp for much less than $1K and would probably be the easiest way to get much more power. and with the small TGP turbo you definately shouldn't have much noticeable lag. you'll probably toast the transmission though. CutlassSL91
would it be cheaper for me just to get a 3800 V6 or a 3.1 Turbo? What auto trans should I replace it with? What is ALL involved with converting N/A 3.1 to Turbo 3.1? I'm sure this has been asked many times but I need a cost estimate.

Just turbo related parts from a parts car would probably run you around $700+ unless you luck out, plus other costs (new fluids, gaskets, odds and ends that you might break or might've missed.. etc). I don't know how much 3800s are going for but if you're going to swap one in, you might as well try for a supercharged one. That cost will probably top $1500+ though. In the end, availability of turbo parts is going to be a big factor.. For the trans, it depends on what you end up going with. For the turbo, I'd recommend a TGP-specific automatic (4T60-HD). If you're going with a newer 3800 or something, then a 4T65E or E-HD would be good to look for..
Guest TurboSedan
hmmm cost estimate. that's a tough one. your best bet would probably be to track down a complete Turbo Grand Prix or at least a complete engine from one. or you could buy all of the turbo-specific parts seperately. either way, it should be less that $1000. as for transmissions, i think your only choice would be a built 4T60 but i really don't know. or a Getrag 282 5-speed with a good clutch you could go with a Series II 3800 V6 but i think it would be alot more work, cost more, and it wouldn't get you 200whp. although there are some badass turbo kits for the L36 but they cost serious money. i'd probably go with a Series II L67 before i did that, along with a 4T65-E HD. CutlassSL91
hmmmm.... I've been thinking, would swapping a 3800 II v6 from a 96-99 Olds 88/Bonneville/Park Avenue be a better choice? I really like those engines. Cheaper? I don't want to spend more than $
