Got bored, playing with Excel and reading SCC

In a recent issue of SCC (July 2005, Battle of the Project Cars).....Dave Coleman wrote a nice atricle in his section called TechnoBabble. In it, he writes a nice article on how to write a spreadsheet for gearing and rpm.

Here it is....I pretty much copied it to the T....sorry Dave, I doubt he'll read this anyways....

http://www.berettaspeed.com/canada/Excel%2...9;s%20Chart.xls

In it, is the factory set of gears (T45) for a 1997 Cobra with a 3.73 FDR (factory is 3.27)....long...aren't they?

Now you can find the speed and rpm you are at in whatever gear set you want. You can also find what rpm you will drop to off each shift....just draw a horizontal line from your shift point to the next gear.

Well...

Here is the gearing...

3.46

2.28

1.48

1.09

0.72

3.67

245/50/16 tires, 7k redline.

Man....5th is long. The 0.81 from a W 282 would be nice, but I still don't think 5th would be useable for a stock LQ1. Although it would raise it from a 4600 rpm to about 5200 off a 7k 4-5 shift....all at about 135 mph.

So I did use the 284 and a dyno chart of a LQ1/284. Except I made 5th a .81 (W 282 5th) and 6th a .72 (the correct 5th).

This first chart is MPH against RPM.....

This way, you know what rpm you'll drop to off a shift.

This is my Excel verison of a dyno chart I have of a LQ1 and 284 in a Feiro...

I went through and picked a point on the torque line every 100 rpm and caluclated horsepower from it (HP = TQ*RPM/5252).

Based on that, I am able to make this chart.....

Horsepower%20vs%20MPH.JPG

Useful for picking shift points......just shift were the lines cross. Now remember...5th is 0.81 and 6th is a .72......look at how much tighter it is.....there is another 10 whp on tap.....I think the 0.81 would be very worthwhile....I think an ungovered LQ1 0.81 284 should have no trouble hitting 145 mph.

This next chart is useful if you are trying to match a random set of gears with a random motor and FDR......and you want to see if your car will a tire burning, or actually be something decent.

God damned I'm bored..........BIGBULS has his SE-R chart around.

I think I'm gonna mess with 92-94 non-W41 Quad gears....

Very nice spreadsheet you got there. 8) I'm glad to see that I set my speedo up correctly as I pretty much redline(5500) 4th in my getrag 284 TGP at a little over 100 mph. Interesting to see that 5th gear can possibly take me 150 mph if I had the power to do it.
