Okay so last night my car (the 94) started making this terrible metal on metal sound so I parked it until dad could get home to look at it and I drove the van to school today. He just called and said the drivers front caliper is frozen and that I'm going to need new pads, rotor, maybe more(?) and probably all the way around. What's this going to run me :? :( Should I just have him grease the calipers or replace? He said he was guessing $500 for new calipers, rotors, pads all the way around.

Try to grease up the slider, if it's not totally siezed. Then just drive until you need to change the other one. I don't see why you'd need to change the back brakes though.. just the front so they wear evenly.

I dunno if it will cost $500....that sounds a little high - unless you are using expensive parts lol....me=white box special :D

Because I knew the brake at least on the passenger rear was bad. Didn't know all of this was screwed up :?

Um.. do it yourself? It's not hard to do brakes, the hardest part, really, is bleeding them after you replace the caliper.

Yes, do it yourself. I got new pads all the way around (wearever silvers and gold), 2 new rear calipers, and new front rotors, plus a bunch of other junk for like $250 and that is before I get my core charge back (like $100). Just remember, when you get calipers, return your old ones to get that charge back, its a decent hunk of money.

I replaced all calipers/rotors/pads on my '97 when I got it a couple years ago and I spent less then $200 for everything......very simple to do, don't pay someone

Just got the call from the shop...

4 new pads

4 new calipers (or was it rotors damn it.... :bash: )

$310.00

Yeah, check if it was calipers or rotors, b/c normal retail price is WAY different for calipers than for rotors, calipers=much more expensive.

that price sounds like its just for the pads and rotors...that really isnt that bad if thats INSTALLED...

That price is for the pads+rotors. Price of the parts depends on the quality. I got white box (cheap) put on my car that was about 10,000miles ago and they still look good.

Yeah according to my mom it was rotors and brake pads but I think my dad said my calipers were frozen up but he's asleep so I won't know until I talk to him on the phone tomorrow or this weekend when I get home from school :bash:

Well, man, I can't tell you what to do. But if you're going to replace the rotors too, I would just do it myself. you have to unhook the caliper from over the rotor to replace the pads, just do the rotors too. Just get someone to help you bleed the brakes... that is me, though, and me or family does not really have a lot of money, so I have to do a lot of work to my car myself, or it will sit forever.
