jeffrs73
Hello everyone.... first let me say thanks... i've been able to learn a lot from the boards here. I have a 95 Cutlass Convertible with the 3.4.... recently the engine has been acting very erratically.... a general description of whats happening is that you'll start the car... it appears to idle fine for about 3 minutes.... the it's almost like the idle rpm starts to fall and the computer picks up the rpm and then it falls again followed by the computer picking up the rpm again. As it osolates like this the rpm falls a little lower each time till eventually the computer can't rescue it and it stalls. Now if you try and hold the rpm wih your foot on the gas, that will work for a couple minutes but then it will start missing, running rough and eventually stalls anyways. here's a list of parts replaced. battery. crank sensor cam sensor throttle position sensor coil pack ive checked for vacuum leaks and haven't been able to locate any. any help with this would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Jeff
slick
Check the intake gaskets, both upper and lower, by spraying some carb cleaner at them. If the car starts idling rough while doing that, they are bad.
White93z34
have you replaced the Ignition module yet? or the other 2 coil packs, you seem to be on the right path so far, change that ICM and go from there.
jeffrs73
yep replaced the icm with the coil packs.... and it ran the best it ever did when i started it after that... thought i had it nailed.... but then sure as sh#$ the osillating started again :bawl: . Im leaning towards a vaccum or gasket leak... ive tried spraying fluid around the manifolds but haven't been able to identify anything. im thinking though i may replace them anyways in case it something im just missing the leak somehow... any idea how hard it is to do? Is there any other items i should take care of while im in there? thanks, jeff

sonyman87
I highly dought the intake gaskets are bad b/c those symptoms are just the opposit of a leaky gasket. irratic idle when cold and smooths out when warm. .. this is smooth at startup and dies off when warm. I bet sticking EGR or an 02 sensor, simple as that. asside form that the IAC may be messed up but that wouldnt explain why it only happens after it starts to warm up.
