highpwr3point1 Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 Here's the deal, I have an extensively modified 93 gp. Last week I got a bad injector, washed out my rings and trashed the cam. (when i drained my oil it was a 30/70 oil/gas mix) Is there a flywheel that will fit a 3.8 (early ninties) so i can still use my 5tm40 five speed (90grandprix). I don't know too much about the 3.8, though i have build a number of 3.1 and 2.8 strokers. One more thing, has anybody ever done a 4barrel carb with the oldschool distributer on a newer 60* front drive platform. Just curious. Quote
brianteel Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 there is a write up on my site you might find relating to this i am taking out my L67 and putting a L36 in the car so i can sell it you want: 1. F-body L36 flywheel (machined from 1.10" to .84") 2. Grand Prix Clutch and Pressure Plate that is it.....you will have to do some wiring which should not be too hard....you need to get a monte carlo harness and take out all the wires that are not needed. i do offer services for this if you are interested Quote

Redwolf Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 These engines are designed for port injection. Converting to carburation wouldn't be impossible, but it would be damned impractical. Same goes for the distributor. Don't know of anyone who has (or who would) oldskool a W-body engine like that. Quote
gp90se Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 you can convert a 2.8/3.1 motor to a carb setup by using a 3ed gen 2.8 v6 dist where the oil pump drive is, removing the TB, blocking it off and cut/welding a flang on top of the plenum for a carb. Basic welding and fabricating skills it shouldnt be to hard. but I would wonder why sinse MPFI makes more power, better mpg and is pretty straight foward on these cars. if you do go carb, you will need a 4t60 or non E transmission. GP1138 Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 I've seen 3.1 or something like that engines in U-vans. They have the same serpentine belt setup on the left side, and they were TBI. Maybe that could be adapted to be carb'd? Quote
gp90se Posted May 29, 2005 Report Posted May 29, 2005 they use cast iron heads i think, different setup Quote
