EuroSedan93
Tonight on the way home from work the euro was making a very loud taping noise, i know that the engines are suppose to make a klicking noise when they idle because of the valves, but this sounds a hell of a lot worse, and I have no idea what it is. Does anyone know what it could be?
twind
Wost likly a rod bearing!!! sorry!!! not what you wanted to here, right.
JoroCorona
tapping could be something top end or bottom end. Need some more info about when its happeneing, about where its coming from and such. If its just a tapping I doubt its your rod. Rods have much louder knock to them.

EuroSedan93
Its coming from the front right side of the engine
jeremy
top or bottom?
EuroSedan93
Well needless to say it had gotten a lot worse, and now the engine shakes violently, stalls nearly every time I hit the gas or keep it idling, and it sounds more of a clanking now. I took it to my garage and they are saying it could be a camshaft, dead cylinder, and it most likely needs a rebuild.
joey b
Could be the crank sensor. IF it is, easy fix.
89SupremeCutty
When you rev the engine, can you hear a popping noise through the intake? If so, it's probly a lifter or cam. My car does the exact same thing.
EuroSedan93
ALl I know is its making a very loud clacking fron the area under the valve cover, and its shaking very violently. I was really undrivable, its parked now because it really wants to just stop running.
joey b
test the voltage at the ICM coming from the crank sensor. You will have to put a millivolt meter in and have someone turn it over.
EuroSedan93
I believe the problem may have come from a bad spark plug. I am replacing them tomorrow, found one on #6 that was messed up not producing a spark, which probably explains my problem. Dead cylinder. White93z34
Could be the crank sensor. IF it is, easy fix. WHAT? BEST case its something stupid like a spark plug, but that dosen't expain the noise, and then a pushrod may have jumped. but worst and most likey, your engine is cooked, rebuild time. EuroSedan93
Well I have it down the street at a shop, its gonna get hooked up to a scope and whatnot, so We'll find out soon what it really is. I really thank all of you for you help and input on the matter.
HokemBokem
My car was making that same noise. About 2,000 dollars and a rebuild fixed her up
EuroSedan93
Well the shop just called me, dead cylinder on #6 I believe, they did a compression test and it only had 30 psi. so needless to say its kinda messed. Looking into a rebuild or just getting them to drop a 3.4 in it
MonteC
that sucks. everthink of a junkyard engine. or one sold on the board here.
EuroSedan93
Well It is in my best interest to rebuild since the engine only has 116 Kilometers on it. plus the top end and everything is in awesome shape.
GP1138
the engine only has 116 Kilometers on it Squeeze me? You did mean 116,000 Kilometers, didn't you?
EuroSedan93
Yes I did mean 116,XXX kms. but heres the best part, the cars FIXED! it turned out to be a loose rocker arm and pushrod. go figure. I thought it was, but I didnt want to tinker with it because i'm not too well versed in the 3.1 area. 2.2 I can do no problem. Since i'm not going to be spending an arm and a leg on the engine now, look for some very heavy mods coming this summer! I'm so happy now. the euro's back. Got sik of driving a sunfire. Does my car look like a cavalier? lol I didnt think so, so they can have those mods. My main mods are going to be a custom two tone paint job on the car, rims, probably lower it, and a bunch of custom stuff that I am doign myself. I could care less about the go factor of the car, its fast enough for me. All I care about is appearance.
