Engine and Tranny replacement

Ok. I got the people holdng the car you see in my sig down to $100. So I am dead set on getting this CS back on the road and out of harms way.

The engine, 2.8, is shot and the tranny has burnt fluid.

Based on the condition of the engine (after having pulled a valve cover and seen caked on oil) I am guessing the tranny is no better.

So, I have a couple of questions and a few statements.

First, I have found a good running 3.1 in a 92' Beretta. I have chose this engine to be the replacement.

There is an 89' CS in the yard with a 3.1. I am figuring that I can transfer the wiring harness and ECM from the 89' CS into my 88' ?

Secondly, there is an 89' Regal with a 2.8 and the same type of tranny as our CS's. I can only imagine that this is interchangable? The fluid is red and I am sure it will be fine.

I guess I would have to verify that the tranny is a 4 spd auto.

I ask you not to tell me to do a 3800 swap. I just want to get this car back on the road, as it should be, in good running order.

Any constructive feedback is welcome. Thanks! -Jim

3.1 will run fine with the 2.8's wiring harness...I guess people say about removing the MAF from '88's but I don't think that requires the whole harness...You will probably use the '89's PROM.

'89 regal 2.8's trans will be the same...as will the one in the '89 CS 3.1 as long as they are 4-speeds.

The beretta may or may not use the same exaust manifolds although I am not that knowlegable about this.

If I were you though, i'd put in a 2000-up or so 3400 and get the PROM done so it can run that...but its just a thought
