Tranny Fluid's

What tranny fluid do most of you guys use? I wanted to use the B&M Trick Shift but the guy at Advance Auto Parts told me don't. He said it is type F and will destroy my tranny. So I have been looking at Mobile1 and Hurst Hot Shift. I don't like the idea of cheap fluid, and also want good shifts. Please give me an idea on what you guy use and what improvment you may have seen.

Thanks,

Justin

Use Dextron-III. That's what your transmission was designed to use (Well, Dextron-II, but III supercedes II), and that's what you should put in it. If you want firmer shifts, do it the right way and buy a shift kit. Don't ghetto-rig your car. You'll only regret it later.

good idea, i'd think the price of an AVM is cheaper than a rebuild from using the wrong stuff.

i thought ATF was for chryslers, I always used Dexron III in my GM's

ATF Stands for Automatic Transmission Fluid. Dexron I, II, III, and, Mercon and, type F are all types of ATF. As opposed to Gear Oil for a stick shift. Has anyone on here actually used any performance ATF?

Okay...

Dexron II is what your car was designed to work with. If you want mildly firmer shift without sacrificing any wear on your tranny, goto ATF+3. ATF+3 is designed for chrysler trannys. It has a higher coefficient of friction and will allow for more solid engagement of the clutch packs. If you want firmer then that you can goto Type F. Type F will damage your tranny eventually. It will chew up your clutch discs because Type F actually has friction material in it. Its basically using two types of clutches at once, fluid clutch and a fiber clutch. This will eventually ruin the tranny.

A shift kit (transco) and ATF+3 in my friend beretta makes the thing chirp 2nd and 3rd and no problems wear wise. Fluid is clear, and very minimal deposits on the pan magnet. That is what I would do If I was in your position.

I've been using Wal-mart cheap-ass Dexron III in my Cutlass forever. Almost 200,000 miles with no tranny work.

After 2 tranny fluid/filter chages (in my ownership of the car) , mine took a dump at 150K. $2000 later she runs pretty good :yikes:

My tranny is using Trick Shift. I'm very happy, it firmed up the shifts a bit. However its a beat to hell 3 speed with almost no reverse left, a gear hunt problem and a occasionally wierd 1-2 shift. I plan on upgrading to a 4T60 sometime. I'm curious to hear more about this Dexron IV. Will it be safe to use in our trannies since it's a synthetic fluid?

What if I change my tranny fluid once a year about every 9,000 Mi. Will it still do damage. I have 70,172 Mi. as of today. And has anyone used Hurst Hot Shift?

Regardless, over time Type F will hurt your tranny. I dont know what type Trick Shift is, but if it doesn't meet Dexron specs, I wouldn't use it. ATF+3 out does dexron in every way, thus why it gives better shifts. I run ATF+3 in my lumina. Before I started having engine issues, I was neutral dropping it every other day, and lockout shifting it when I wasn't neutral dropping it. I am very abusive to the tranny and it shifts like new. ATF+3 is what I would suggest to you.

Never heard of it. Is it new?

I don't know how "new" it is. The bottle looks old. But i see it at the auto parts stores around here all the time.
