89 Cutlass 440T4 Auto Trans Drain And Refill Capacity

Just a quick question i am wondering if anyone knows the correct amount of tranny fluid i need to put back in after a drain and fiter change.

Its an 89 Cutlass 2.8L 440T4 4 Speed Auto.

El' Haynes o-Manual-o says 6-quarts.

 

For a pan drop.. yes. It sounds about right for when I changed my fluid. The entire capacity is WAY more than that.

I also read in my manual that it takes 6 quarts but to get a proper dipstick reading i needed to ad 7 quarts just to have fluid on the dipstick.

Just wondering if anyone remembers how much they have added after a pan drop

were you checking the fluid warm and running in park?

What i usually do is let the fluid warm up but not get too hot then check it after shifting through all the gears and checking it while idling in park

I've added up to 8 qts in mine to fill her up after the pan drop. I also let it sit for awhile and drip.
