EuroSedan93
Just curious about this, but when I first picked up the car and let it idle, the fan would kick in at the half-way point on the temp gauge and bring it back to normal operating temperature of about 1/4 of the gauge. But as of late the fans done click in at all from what I can hear, and the temp gauge goes all the way to 3/4 the temp gauge. I'm in fear of overheating the engine or taking it on long haul trips until I know if there is something wrong. If it were a problem with the primary fan, the secondary should kick in as it is a backup correct? it even isnt doing that. Any help would be appreciated. DiscoStudd
I have one question: Are you aware of how to retrieve DTC's (diagnostic trouble codes) by jumpering pins A and B of the ALDL connector under the dash? Assuming you know how, go ahead and jumper A & B and switch the ignition "ON" (do not start the engine.) If you jumpered the proper terminals, the Service Engine Soon light should flash a code 12 (blink, pause, blink blink) 3 times. Whenever you jumper A & B, in addition to retrieving the DTC's, it also switches on the cooling fans. First thing you should do before jumpering A & B is disconnect the harness at the primary cooling fan. Connect up a volt meter, then jumper A & B and switch the ignition on. If you have 12 volts at the connector, then the fan motor(s) are shot. If you don't get any voltage, then the fan relay is the culprit... 1990lumina
Also, if you flip on the A/C I think that forces the secondary fan to turn on no matter what temp the guage is at.. - Jeff L.
