what ones you have? mine dont make loud noises anymore but there is some really quiet noise i hear from every single bump but my stereo takes care of that. if the springs arent turned right, they will make more noise. try playing with that. thats how i got mine to stfu

i have put silicone on them, white grease everything i could to try and get them to shut the fuck up, they are still loud as hell and i even had it on jacks a few times so i could make sure the spring is in the right position. Air Ride here i come

i don't really like mine, but mine are TDC with the ultra craptastic upper spring perch. the FFP upper spring perch is MUCH better. my BIGGEST problem with them is that doing a hard U-turn at slow speeds one end of the rear will lift up and when it comes back down the spring won't sit back down in the perch right - it's crooked making god awful noises and making the rear suspension rock hard. then i have to raise the car with a jack and slowly lower it back down while making sure the spring goes into the upper perch correctly. the only other times i have noises from the rear coilovers is when i drive up into a parking lot...the spring will sometimes not sit back down into the upper perch and when it does finally it makes a very loud "booiingngng" noise. this doesn't happen very often however. most of the time my coilovers are quiet as can be and i love the ride quality with the KYBs. they also lowered the rear perfectly of course since they are adjustable. from what i've heard the FFP coilovers are much better due to the better designed upper spring perch (with poly insert?). the TDC upper spring perch is simply solid aluminum :?

also, the damn set screw!! i was VERY careful NOT to overtighten it (as per instructions) but when it came time to adjust them i ended up stripping them out. now i have to drill them out and re-tap them for a slightly bigger set screw if i want to adjust them....or use two big pipe wrenches....one to hold the threaded sleeve still and the other pipe wrench to turn the adjuster nut (which is basically locked to the sleeve due to the stripped set screws).

so in other words, i am no fan of coilovers period.

i'm really looking forward to seeing the results of the Birchmount rear leaf spring and possibly buying one this summer.

I was planning on lowering my cutlass with the coil overs but i guess I wont be going that way if everyone says that there really that bad.

alot of people are worried about the stuctural integrity of the GEN-1 W-body rear strut towers with coilovers (since they weren't designed to withstand the load of coil springs). BUT - after having coilovers on my car for almost 4 years with ZERO damage nor any signs of damage or ill effects associated with them, i think it's a non-issue. and that is with LOTS of heavy loads in the trunk, LOTS of interstate trips, not to mention driving the shit out of this car delivering pizza the whole time. coilovers do not damage GEN-1 W-bodies PERIOD. i really doubt anyone can prove me wrong there.

however, there are those other issues....listed above :?

hopefully the Birchmount rear spring is the answer to our problems.

I recently had my steel leaf spring installed in my Z, and with the moog poly spring pads, quiet as can be... ride height is close to level with the front... give or take... gotta get some pics soon... also, rides a whole lot better than 1/4" of fibreglass on each side  not sure how it compares to new... but with my dying shocks, it rides great! it's got the sporty feel back! as opposed to making the whole car go 'boooooonnnnnnng!' on the really big bumps

I'll try and find who makes it... all I know is I got it from a place that normally caters to semi's

~ $170 canadian

it came out in 2004... was a nice big picture in the lumina section of the dudes parts book  8)

I must be the only person that doesn't have trouble with the CO's....o well

yeah if i had FFPs instead of TDCs i'd probably be happy with them.

Ive been wanting to get the FFP's coilovers for some time now but just havent had the money, but would you say that they are deff worth the money and have no problems with them at all?, besides a harder ride?

I've had mine in since March haven't had a problem yet actaully quite enjoy mine and the handling is a big improvement although the stock struts were blown to hell when I bought the car, but its just as quiet to me as it was with the leaf....

now i've got a huge rattling noise in the rear....but I think it is my body cladding rattling....i've just got to figure out how to tighten it.

New clips might fix that or gorilla glue :leaving:

well i went to my graduation last night and on wednesday i put the c/o down very far. and i dont hear andy more squeks but i hear clunks i think that is the sway bar. if you dont have it adjust it perfectly it clunks so i adjusted it and they work awsome. i have 18 so i think i might have to raise them back up because they might be rubbing but it looks slammed. but by far the worst engineered aftermarket part by far
