Intlcutlass
So , I go to the boneyard, and ask for some strut/knuckle assemblys for a 96 monte , get em home , clean em up, start taking off the calipers caliper brackets and rotors. I go to measure the rotors to enjoy the fruits of my labor and ..... WTF!!! only 10.5 inches.... Either the bonyard mislabeled them, or GM was still using 10.5" rotors on 96's. PS I knew there was some 95's still using 10.5", that why I asked for 96..
GnatGoSplat
That sucks! Were they actually labeled with year/model of car? You can tell an 11.25" rotor because it has a raised ridge that has writing on it.

I am known at the yard, so they said they would take em back for an xchange or just give me my money back.......Just a wast of time really.... GutlessSupreme
Some '96s still had the smaller rotors. Same thing happened to me. Luckily I noticed before I left the yard though.
dsgrntld187
Is it pretty easy to go to the 96+ knuckle?
GutlessSupreme
It'd be easier to just swap the entire strut tower, otherwise you have to dissasemble the whole thing and rebuild it around the new knuckle.
Guest TurboSedan
It'd be easier to just swap the entire strut tower, otherwise you have to dissasemble the whole thing and rebuild it around the new knuckle. you have to swap the entire strut. the strut & knuckle is one integrated piece. btw, i bought my strut/knuckle assemblies from a local j/y for $100/pair....that included the 'FUX' springs too they were from a '96 Cutlass Supreme sedan with 49,000 miles. i could tell just by looking at them that they were bigger than my current rotors. damn things have been sitting in my garage for well over a year. i still need to put my new Intrax springs on 'em, and get new ball joints and the 11" rotors and new pads.
