overheating

I have a 91 ragal with a 3100 in it. when i go down the road it does not runs hot, but idling or driving in town it runs hot where the temp light comes on not bright red about half way. the fans are wired to run all the time. the story on the old motor is that overheated one day so the previous owner put 4 bottles of bahrs stop lead in there. is there a possibilty that the radidator is clog. the heater core is bypassed no t-stat in there right now. there is no coolant in oil or oil in coolent. not losing any coolent. could the head gaskets be bad without any of these signs?? or is something plugged.

What the FUCK is your problem? And if you took any time to read his goddamn post rather than worrying about my maturity, you'd see that he has no thermostat even in there.

he asked a reasonable question, you gave a smart ass remark about his spelling, you're the one with the problem, not me

No shit, chill out Shaun!

I would probably flush out the radiator and make sure everything is flowing good in the engine. Then install a new t-stat and fill the coolant back up. Notice any leaks?

:werd: If you have a clogged radiator, its possible that the wind from highway drivin keeps your motor cool. but during city driving or idling, where flow is most important, and you dont have flow cuz of the clog, your car overheats! 8)

I agree with these guys. Put a new thermostat in, check for leaks, and make sure there is NO air in the system. If this does not solve the problem, have the system pressure checked.

I blew the head gasket in my 3100 and the oil and coolant were not mixing, but it was blowing air into the cooling system, overpressurizing it and restricting flow.

May be your culprit if its not the T-stat.

I had the radiator flushed today, still overheated!! still no leaks so i had the sytem pressure checked, bad head gasket. what is the max warpage on the heads or is there none, othewise i will get new ones or have them shaved!!

Maybe your water pump blades are just worn to shit?!

BARS stop leak will eat them blades like nothing. Had a DHOC Ford w/ the blades cracked in half from that shit...

I bet your pump is just all gummed up to shit...

thats what i was thinking, 1 bottle of stop leak can fuck some shit up. now what 4 can do  what you need to do

pull the waterpump out, make sure the blades still exist mabie replace it for good measure... they are cheep enough, then flush the cars entire cooling system... twice. get a new thermostat, and some good coolant, fill it up. bleed the entire system... its a pain in the ass but you gotta do it. that oughta solve your overheating problems. unless its got a blown headgasket. then well you'll need to replace them.

Just about done with the head r/r. will have it running tomorrow sometime, not to bad of a job to do , I've done worse. I drained the whole system including the block. This should solve the problem.

Still overheats not to the point where there is clunking and all the stuff, but enough where the light will come on. new water pump, head gaskets, radiator flushed, fresh coolent, bleed system. Could the belt be bad or something else. when you pull rad cap loose no air comes out just coolent.

It sounds to me like the radi is clogged to the point of no return. You might just need to get a radiator.

are your cooling fans turning on ?

  • 2 weeks later...

Is it possibile that one of the heads are cracked? No coolent in oil or coolent. if you run a straight edge across the heads should there be any gaps if so what would be the max? Just an update. Changed head gaskets, water pump, thermostat, radiator flushed, air bleed out of system. fans are wired so there on all the time. anthing else it could be? can the intake gasket cause this if it did not seal?.
