dbtk2
So I installed a FFP underdrive pulley on my Lumina, didn't have any problems it went on just fine. So I start the car up everything looks/sounds great. I start driving it and it feels normal, but if I go WOT it definately doesn't feel any faster, it actually feels like its a little slower and there seems to be more noise coming from the engine, like the intake or something, than there is from the exhaust. Any ideas on what could cause this??? My STE had a lot more intake noise after I put my FFP pulley on, but I figured that was due to the cam/topend swap I did at the same time...does the pulley cause the intake to be louder??? no1kicker
My car was a bit louder, mostly the idle like when you first turn the car on.
sonyman87
broken ass dyno?!?!?! either that your motor is putting more power down and the transmission dosnt like it... as for being louder. there really isnt much difference. i can varify this next weekend after we install a FFP pully on garrettman99(mymonte.com) 2000 3400 MC LS. but it really sounds like something else is robbing your power. check to see your acessories turn ok and also makesure your intake isnt leaking boost. Turbo cars can act funny sometimes
dbtk2
It seems to be back to normal now, but I can't really tell if its any faster or not. Maybe it lost torque, because it feels slower in the low-mid range, but a little quicker on the topend. It just seems like the engine is making a little more noise or something. It isn't any louder on idle or cruising, but at WOT it sounds more like a DOHC engine or something that breathes better through the intake. I know my tranny doesn't like the power I'm putting down, especially without the factory tranny cooler that the turbo cars get not being there. (which makes sense due to the fact that it wasn't originally a turbo car) I think I'm going to order one and put it on ASAP because this tranny doesn't act like it plans on being around much longer. I'll race my friend in his '94 Mustang GT (5 speed with mild mods) again and see if I do any better. From a 45mph roll we were dead even at 110 on Friday night. I put the pulley on Saturday morning so I'll try to run him again and see if I do any better, it just truly doesn't feel any quicker. 90TGP
Did you put on the right size belt? I know when I put on the first belt [was only 1" shorter], it sounded weird because it wasn't small enough. I then installed a belt 1.5" smaller, and it ran perfect. dbtk2
Yes, I put on the 69.5" belt just as I did on my STE. Shawn
no1kicker
I have the 695 size belt also, no problems since install.
sonyman87
well +5whp probably wont feel like much OR the accelleration has smoothed out so much that it dosnt feel like your going faster b/c the power kicks in sooner? still i should know very soon about your noise issue
GP1138
I would think that because the pulley is smaller that would leave a little more slop to your belt. Maybe your tensioner is going bad or something. Rev the engine while you're watching the tensioner, see how much it shakes.
5speedz34
When I had the pulley on my old Z34, sometimes it would sound like a whine coming down for the firewall but I never worried about it.

Thats why I installed a 1.5" shorter belt with the pulley as stated above... The power gain isn't very large so I could easily just have not noticed the gain, I'm just worried about the noise. It sounds like there is more noise coming from the engine, like it has more load on it or something. Its deeper. It just sounds different, it seems to be ok though so I guess I won't worry about it. Brian P
just a thought, but MAYBE the noise has something to do with the underdrive not built like the stock one with the rubber vibration dampener?
