loominaz34
Just like the title says, i'm trying to remove the O2 sensor. what's the best way to get this done? It's on the top of the rear manifold and I can't figure out how to get it out. My arms are twigs so any method conceivable is welcome. mfewtrail
Use a large wrench or an o2 sensor socket for removal. You may want to get some "PB blaster ", "liquid wrench," or some other penetrating spray to spray on it. Then you let it sit up for a while and it makes it easier to remove. cutlsp
what about those funny o2 sensor wrenches? do they work worth a damn? :?:
no1kicker
Yes they work, if the O2 is at a tough angle. On my car I only needed a wrench to remove it. If it's in there good, try loosening it when the car is a little warm.
loominaz34
After about 2 hours of hardcore manuvering, I got the socket and extensions to come from where the EGR would be to the top of the manifold, unplugged it with wire cutters, and removed it, Install took about 20 minutes nicluding rebolting the EGR, replacing the PCV lines i took off and replacing the heatshield. Results: the car doesn't hesitate, doesn't stink, no smoke, I think I owe those who suggested this to me a huge thank you. Now, will I pass emissions?
Tru2Chevy
So would the general concensus be that it is fairly easy to get to from up top? Looked like it was going to be a pain either way. I need to do this soon, mine is original (180k miles) Â - Justin
loominaz34
Mine was too. On the 3.1 it will not be as hard I'll almost guarantee. I have the 3.4 TDC and it was a horrible experience. but definitely worth it if I can keep the car registered. (Illinois Emissions, fail thrice, no more registration.) Canada
This is why I like the manual transmission TONS of room to access it from the bottom.
loominaz34
I knew there was a good excuse for the five-speed-swap. I'll have to bring that up after I save the money for the trans. The only upgrade this car needs right now is a clutch pedal.
5speedz34
Yeah, the amount of room between a 5-speed and a Auto is ridiculous.
