GP1138
I have the 4 speed auto, and I think the luminas have a 3 speed? Maybe it is four? The three-speed auto you speak of is the TH-125c, and it wasn't the only tranny in the Lumina. A lot of them got the 4T60(E) as well. THe_DeTAiL3R
The 5 speed transmission isn't really going to increase power... Never understood why people think that... Sure it's easier to get a better launch. An auto shifts smoother and faster, you just can't mess around with the shift points, as easily. But I did it. It was close, I will not deny that... I have the 4 speed auto, and I think the luminas have a 3 speed? Maybe it is four? 5-speeds take advantage of the power better. I know with a 2.4ecotec I can smash through the gears it feels like it accelerates quite a bit faster than automatic. How the hell does an auto shift smoother and faster? ONLY if you suck at driving stick are you gonna have quicker and smoother shifts with an automatic. Slushboxes sucks. Only the older base Luminas of early 90s got 3-speed.. anything with a 3100 has the 4T60e 4-speed. For the record.. 3.1 series II were rated about 140hp/180tq 1994+ 3.1 series III (3100) rated at 160-175hp (depending on the year) 2.2L OHV 115HP/135 ft-lbs (check edmunds.com) 2.2 ecotec: 140/150 2.4L DOHC 150hp/155 So if you wanna put a 2.2L 115HP engine against a 160HP 3100, you're gonna lose even with the weigh difference. 88Regal Limited
well duh, everyone knows a Cavi or Sunfire w/ a 2.2 Eco or 2.4 Eco will smoke a 3.1 W, 2.4 eco aint out yet. The 95 till 2002 Z24 had the 2.4 twin cam motor. 150hp 155tq. I don't have the eco lol. Actually the eco and 3.1 are about the same, 150 HP. I think hte eco might be 160. Mines 120. EDIT: I don't even think the Eco came out untill 2003... And the 2.4 Eco isn't even out yet. eco was in late 2002, optional. And a 160hp eco? 140hp 150tq. the 3.1 has 140hp 180tq. The eco is all top end and 3.1 is all bottom end. And the 2.2 OHV isn't capable of putting over 110hp to the wheels. 95 if you're lucky.I have a 2004Eco cavi and I'm a member of the J body.org so I know alot. THe_DeTAiL3R
Yup.. I drive my Sister's and fiance's 2.2OHV Sunfires... and they have no low-end or high end. The 2005 Sunfires I drive at work with the 2.2ecotec do have top end... when you step on it and it starts reving up it feels like it WOULD take a 3.1/3100 for sure. We are comparing a 115hp engine to a BETTER BREATHING OHC 140hp engine in a small car, so that's gonna make a big difference in performance. I still like the 2.4L engine out of the 3 though. Calvin
Holy shit! 3800lbs! My C-body Olds Touring Sedan with power windows and locks and mirrors and headrests and seats and 3 cigarette lighters and every option and leather and 16" Toronado wheels only weighs 3450 lbs. I suggest having your scales calibrated. We do 2x/year, and there is creep over time. Kurt
Bolt_Crank
it's the only scale around, so I gotta use it... but it's shown the same weight for over 1.5 years... give or take 50lbs my Z is just a fatass... it's even missing some pieces! lol
THe_DeTAiL3R
I weighed our 1995 Lumina APV van on a scale once... with me inside it was around 3800lbs. According to edmunds.com gross weight is 3516 lbs.. 1993 Z34 is suppose to be 3374 lbs. Were you sitting in the car, and if you were do you weigh 400lbs?
