Guest Anonymous Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Is it possible to upgrade the sound system in my RPE so that it would work with the gain control switch and some sort of improved sound? Quote

supreme_style21 Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 Doesn't the gain switch just pretty much turn on the speakers in the door?? Quote
LukeZ34 Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 The 'Performance sound' Switch found in the drivers side door turns on and off the door speakers. This was only found on 88-89 GP's. The 'Gain' control was only available in the STE Sedans and the gain slider was on the drivers side door. This controlled the volume of the rear 6x9's which acted as subwoofers in the STE's sound system. The Performance Sound switch used just 1 wire at the door speaker amplifier and it would ground out when switched 'On' which triggered the amp to turn on. Simple to wire up if you can find out where the wire goes in the amplifiers harness. Only problem you might run in to is the 90+ door speaker amplifiers may not be designed to work with that switch. If you want the gain control, your looking at a much more involved wiring setup. Plus, you would have to get the STE specific amplifier for it to work properly. Quote
supreme_style21 Posted May 5, 2005 Report Posted May 5, 2005 Ah. Sounds like a lot of work for a subpar effect. Quote
