Automatic to Manual Conversion

Recommended Posts

I have noticed that you guys seem to know your stuff so i have a question; I have an 88 buick regal and i would like to convert it to a manual transmission. The regal wasn't offered with anything but an automatic so (1) will the parts from a grand prix or other w-body bolt right up? (2) If they do how can i find out what years have interchangeable parts? Thanx for any input.

yea im goin to be doin the trans for right after my 3.1 is done to my 88 Regal... If anyone cares
you might want to do the tranny before you drop a 3.1 in your regal it would be much easier that way

:joke: Go easy he's new.

From what I know, parts from any 5sp 88-94 W body will work, just need the mounts and linkage. Not sure about the tranny hump though....

Yeah i may just be paranoid but my tranny has 170,000 miles on it and i don't want it to go out on me and i would love for it to have a manual transmission so i figured i would go ahead and make the swap. Ive been saving and checking prices on rebuilt autos and i figured the swap wouldn't be a lot of difference in price.

Thank you digitaloutsider that is for not being an asshole and actually answering my question. :D

For starters, you can refrain from calling people assholes.....it is not a very good way to make friends and get people to help you.......people didn't answer your question because it gets old answering the same question 500 times because someone (usually a newbie) is either too lazy or too ignorant to use the Search feature of this site. The Search button is there for a reason, not just for looks.

Once you search and find the information that you need, if you run into a specific problem/issue please feel free to post/ask about it, but asking for general information about this swap has been done numerous times.
