kingkn8 Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 My horn won't quit honking, and i am pretty sure it is the problem is in my steering wheel column i was just wondering if anyone knows how hard it is to fix this or of an easier way besides disconnecting the battery. Quote
1990lumina Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 I'm guessing the switch in the center of your steering wheel is stuck...I think one of the Shawn's on this board as said how this switch works...so do a search, ro they might chime in - Jeff L. Quote
john99gtp Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 my lumina used to do that a few times when i started it up. i just hit the column and it would shut up. then it started doing it over bumps *hits bump in road**HONK!!!!!!!* that was awesome. my friends got a kick outta that Quote
DiscoStudd Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 What's your car's year, make, and model? If you have a 94 or newer with a driver's side airbag, it gets a bit more complicated than just "pulling the cover" off of the wheel. Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 even though disconnecting the battery is a pain in the ass, Id try that before messing with the steering, especially if it has an airbag Quote

If you follow the correct procedure to remove the airbag, then there's no cause for worry of it going off in your face ... Quote
Bossman429 Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 Just kick the car in the fender... it worked in "Smokey and the Bandit" Quote

The service manual warns that after pulling the fuse, you MUST wait 30-seconds before working on the airbag for the reserve power to deplete. Quote

I got my info from the Hayne's manual, so obviously I hadn't heard that before . I usually start the car after pulling the fuse to verify that the "airbag" light remains lit (there are 2 airbag fuses, and the light only remains lit if you pull the correct one...) Quote
kingkn8 Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 thanx, guys it took me about 15 minutes to disconnect the my horn. I didn't even wanna try messing with the airbag with my luck it would have gone off in my face and broke my neck lol. Quote
kingkn8 Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 One quick other question. Is ASG still making the 5.0L? Quote

EurosportZ34 Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 well dang it all what kinda car you got...i'm guessing 94+ since you have airbags? Quote
kingkn8 Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 I have a 96 grand prix se (3100 SFI) anyways i have the street arsenal stage 1 heads and upper and lower intake from them and a new throttle body from them as well. However it still doesn't have the grunt i want from it. And i put this stuff on about 15,000-20,000 miles ago. which pathetically was almost two or three years ago. funny thing is it was my friends car when i put them on. and he paid for it i then paid 1500 for the car after i shattered the vss sensor and convinced him the tranny was shot Quote

But the 3.4 DOHC and the L67 both make more power, and would be cheaper/easier swaps. That is what I'd suggest. At any rate, dump the 3.1, or turbo it. Quote

kingkn8 Posted May 3, 2005 Author Report Posted May 3, 2005 you gotta do what you gotta do to get what you want its okay though he stiffed me 5 months rent before so he could pay for all that crap i put on for him. so everything evened its self out Quote
DiscoStudd Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 If you want to do a cheap "HP upgrade" swap in the upper and lower intake manifolds from a 3400. Or better yet swap in a complete 3400 motor. Low mileage 3400's can be had for under $500 and are a drop in replacement for your 3100... http://www.3400swap.com is the definitive guide to swapping a 3400 in place of a 3100 (although the guy running the site used a 95 Grand Am as the basis for the swap...)
