19Cutlass94 Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 For the instrument cluster, is it possible to change/take out the current gauges ( '94 Cutlass SL) and upgrade/replace with something like this, http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?Ntt=guages&Ntk=KeywordSearch&DDS=1&searchinresults=false&N=0&target=egnsearch.asp&x=22&y=12 , (not that exact set but around that) is this even possible and if so how much work would you have to do? supreme_style21 Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 That brings up a search page full of single guages... are you looking at replacing the factory guages with those? Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 not that exact style but yeah replacing the factory with aftermarket gauges Quote
19Cutlass94 Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 but the whole instrument panel with all 6 gauges and replacing them, like what is involved with that? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 why would you do this? seems like alot of work for no gain... or is this part of some big plan? Quote
supreme_style21 Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 Exactly... you're gonna be replacing the factory gauges with an aftermarket unit, which will tell you the same thing the factory unit would? Quote
JoroCorona Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 Since No one else is telling you, Yes you can put aftermarket guages in. You would simply need to run wires to the proper sensors and such. Quote
DiscoStudd Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 I'd say it's possible, but you'd probably want to remove your cluster entirely and have a custom plate fabricated to house the new gauges. Add to that you're going to need a place for the idiot lights to go (maybe you could integrate the lights into the new panel somehow ) If you try to integrate the new gauges into the existing cluster, there won't be much room behind where the cluster sits to house the gauges. You could have the custom plate pushed out to where the lens normally sits on the stock cluster to give you a bit more room. Do some digging around the "Hot Rodding" scene. The Hot Rodders (ya know, pre-49 American cars) make up custom gauge clusters all the time... Quote
GnatGoSplat Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 If you ever want to sell the car, you could have a real hassle when it comes to mileage issues. Quote
