Fat Ryan
im assuming that my engine will not last more than a few years, so i would like to know what i can replace it with (besides another slow@$$ 2.8 ). the 3.1 isnt too much of a step up either, but thats a perfect swap, right? is there any other engines that are easy swaps (newer grand prick engs, turbo engines, non-wbody engines)? topless94style
2.3 DOHC 2.8 3.1L Turbo 3100 3.4L DOHC 3400 3800 3800 S/C
slick
The 3100/3400 will be a pretty much direct swap into your car as well, and would definately be worth the power gains from it. Hell, even the 3.4 DOHC is almost a direct swap, just gotta move some plugs around some.

digitaloutsider
You'd need a new subframe for basically anything but a pushrod 60*.

Hmm... good point. If it is the older style, it might not work. I think when they started using the 3.1 you could swap in the 3.4 as well.

gp90se
4g65 LS2 K/B 5.4 a newer (91-96) subframe will bolt in so a DOHC motor will be a very simple swap.
Fat Ryan
ls2? are you fu(king kidding me. theres not a chance in hell an ls2 could ever fit in these small @$$ cars.
gp90se
a 305 fits with plenty of room to spare, the LS2 is a little wider but i believe shorter then a good old v8s The 3.4 was wider then the 305....

This would require swapping the wiring as well(it's not hard, but not a direct drop in and go).

95 3-4
In these times of ever rising gas costs and hybrid nazis you may want to consider the 4.3 diesel http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7970459451&category=33615&sspagename=WDVW
slick
For simplicity of the swap, go with the 3100 or the 3400.
Prospeeder
3.1 Turbo, or a 3400, or a 2.3 Quad 4 HO, came in Grand Ams 92-95, and some W's, I wouldnt do a DOHC, cause there altenator/Timing belt issue

Fat Ryan
so the 3.4 would fit perfectly into my 89 2.8?

digitaloutsider
so the 3.4 would fit perfectly into my 89 2.8? Once again, You'd have to swap your subframe to the '91-96 3.4/3800 one.
