juicedlumina Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 my tranny is leaking and it looks to be around where the axle goes in the transmission on the drivers side. 90 3.1L 4spd overdrive. I can see a green seal in there is that whats bad? I know seals are cheap but is it easy to change? Just pull the axle out and remove the seal and replace or what? Thanks for help Quote
juicedlumina Posted April 26, 2005 Author Report Posted April 26, 2005 is it gonna start dumpin fluid when i pull it? Quote
89SupremeCutty Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 no, it shouldn't but i could be wrong Quote
Canada Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Perhaps....not that much.....fill it when your done. If its leaking, odds are its low anyways. Quote
Daggar Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I know my Manual Trans leaked when I pulled the axle. I thought it was supposed to do that to keep the socket lubed or something. Book never really said Quote
5speedz34 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 It's definatly going to leak, actually more like piss out. No axle=trans fluid. Quote
cutlsp Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 :withstupid: my cutlass pissed out fluid when the cv axle went bad at least i caught it well before it started clicking  Quote
GP1138 Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 No, it won't piss fluid out. I did it twice, and neither time did I get a faceful of tranny fluid. Just make sure you don't scrape up the metal that contacts the seal and you should be just fine. Quote
digitaloutsider Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 I've pulled axles before and never had tranny fluid "piss" out. Actually, hardly anything came out at all. Quote
joey b Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 it depends on the level of the fluid and the angle of the transmission. Jack the car up a little higher than you would otherwise. I've has tranny fluid vomit out more than once. Quote
Daggar Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Well I feel better knowing it's supposed to do that. Mine was at a good angle on axle stands Quote
Baddflash Posted April 26, 2005 Report Posted April 26, 2005 Just jack up the side you're pulling atleast 3-4" above the other, that should keep the fluid from leaking everywhere. Quote
