A/C Compressor

I got to replace my A/C compressor and was wondering if I was limited to 88-92 compressors. Can I use a compressor from a 95-up W-body? And if I use a late model compressor that had R-134a, can it be used with that Freeze 12 freon?

Why use Freeze-12 if it's already R-134a? That defeats the purpose.

I tried the R-12 to R-134a conversion before and 134a is not that cool compare to the freeze 12 that I have in the system. R-134a work in a R-12 setup but you don't get the same results. I have a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer and my 92 Lumina was way cooler. Not joking...

I knew the compressor wasn't going to last long because of the way it was whining when I had it filled.

Did your old compressor sieze or are you just replacing it?

It's knocking when I turn it on. It actually still work but... the noise and heavy drag on the motor makes the lights dim real bad at idle.

If I recall correctly, you're limited to the current model that is on your car. On the later models, the manifold hoses connecto to the side of the compressor, not the back. As for the issue with blended refrigerants. I don't condone it as I have converted my 92 Lumina to R-134 and can achieve 34 degree vent temps, just as cold as the R-12. The first gen W-bodies were blessed with rather large AC condensers. If you want to run Freeze-12 anyway, change your accumulator/dryer as you now probably have too much oil in the system, if you didn't drain the old oil before recharging.
