Daggar
Just a quick note as I found tearing down my 3.4. I fount that A hose I replaced on the AIR system busted again. So calling the local dealer I was told All AIR parts are discontinued and while some are still available most are not. So FYI AIR Parts are discontinued. The affects people with the Getrag 284 (M27) Transmission.

Daggar
While I agree with the above statement. If the hose is not replaced the car runs like shit. I would liketo remove the damn thing really.
gp90se
might be easyer to dicth the smog pump, throw an automatic front exhaust manifold on, smaller s-belt and say the hell with the whole system
5speedz34
Well, I'm just happy the new car doesnt have it.
Guest TurboSedan
might be easyer to dicth the smog pump, throw an automatic front exhaust manifold on, smaller s-belt and say the hell with the whole system i agree, BUT the AIR pump uses it's own V-belt not the serpentine belt (at least that's how it is on 2.8/3.1 5-speed cars). get rid of it completely, swap the rear manifold and be done with it. Daggar
On the 3.4 the pump is electric... Will I notice any problems from swapping out the system? I was told it's to preven backfiring.
5speedz34
No it's to to warm the exhaust up when the car is cold.
Guest TurboSedan
On the 3.4 the pump is electric... so you're saying it's not belt driven?? (i don't know LQ1s AT ALL, but i find that surprising that it's an electric pump).

Tony your new car has it, it just pumps air randomly into the engine bay Mine are not hooked up, and the car runs fine :?

Maybe I can run it so it goes down to the alt. to cool it. 8)
Aaron
That actually might not be a bad idea...
5speedz34
Think it would actually work? I mean in theory wouldn't the AIR system only work at start up? So it would only work when the alt is cold. FWIW- On my '91 Parts car I found a tube with a fan at one end that ran down to the alt. I have never seen it on any other year though. Aaron
Well it'd work, but I doubt it'd do much good.
