hannibal64 Posted April 21, 2005 Report Share Posted April 21, 2005 with the quad 4 5 speed.. im looking on the main page and cant figure out what trans i have... says vin W is 282 and vin x is 284.. but they dont list a 90 as a year. should i just assume that i have the 282 cause i have W in my vin? 5speedz34 Posted April 21, 2005 Report Share Posted April 21, 2005 Their are alot of variations in 282's. You have the Quad 4 version. GM used the 282 in alot of FWD applications. The quad4's had a different bellhousing and gearing, then the 3.1L version, which was also available in 3.1L j-bodys(cavis) but with different gearing and I've heard different output shaft splines ? The 282 and 284 were dropped as nothing that got a 5-speed had any power after about 93-94. I forget who built the 5-speeds after that but I'm pretty sure they weren't the 282/284.
